I Will Buy You a New Life
Chapter 16
~*"The course of love never did run smooth."- William Shakespeare*~
Angelina woke up early the next morning, her limbs tangled with Brian’s. She smiled to herself as she watched him sleep. He looked so peaceful, so angelic. It pained her to think of what she had to tell him. He’d be crushed. She only prayed he’d want to go with her. Before she could think anymore about it, he stirred and his eyes slowly fluttered open to meet her smiling face.
“Good morning, Angel,” he grinned, stretching his arms above his head. He wrapped his arm back around her and pulled her closer.
“Morning,” she said, leaning up to give him a quick peck on the cheek. They’d instated a no kissing before both of them had brushed their teeth rule a long time ago.
“You been awake long?” She shook her head, wondering when she should tell him. No better time then the present, she thought.
“Bri, there’s something I should tell you.” Brian looked at her expectantly. Normally, the worst case scenarios would be playing in his mind, but not today. Nothing could touch him today. “Umm…I’m moving.” His jaw dropped and before he could ask, she added, “To LA.” His jaw dropped even further.
“But I thought…” Angelina sat up, pulling the sheets around her body and placed her head in her hands.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.”
“When? Why? How? Crap, how long have you known?” he asked, sitting up next to her.
“Only a few weeks. I got offered a job doing make-up for a new soap opera coming out next year. I have to take it, ya know?” she asked looking up. “This could be my big break.” Brian nodded, looking down.
“I understand that you have to do what’s best for you, but I wish you would have told me.”
“Would you not have made love to me last night?” she questioned, looking back down. “I’m sorry if you regret it, but I don’t.”
“Regret it? Are you kidding me? Do you know how long I envisioned you in my arms like that? It was Heaven. That’s not what I meant though. I just wish I would have known so I would have made more of an effort to get you back sooner. We’ve wasted so many precious hours.”
“I may have a remedy for that. I totally understand if you don’t want to do this, because I don’t know about totally uprooting my life for another person either, but…umm…I would love it if you came with me.” A grinned danced on Brian’s lips.
“Are you serious?” he asked, looking into her eyes. “I would want nothing more then to move away from Orlando with you. I hate this stupid town. The only reason I stayed this long was because of you.” She smiled as he kissed the back of her hand. “Kev and Kristin have a house over there, so we can ask to borrow it when we go over to look at houses and stuff. Maybe we could look around in their neighborhood because I’m sure you’d want to live near LA, but I don’t want to live in the city. I don’t want our kids to be living in some scary downtown area or something.”
“Excuse me? Kids?” she asked, smiling.
“Yeah! I do plan on marrying you eventually, Angelina. Then we’re going to have tons of kids. Like 6 or 7.”
“SIX OR SEVEN?! Well good luck, babe. I’m not having 6 or 7 kids. Do you have any idea how painful childbirth is? Unless they come up with some way to allow men to have children, you’re on your own.”
“We have plenty of time to talk about mini-me’s but right now we need to talk about LA,” he said as she laid back down in his arms. She smiled and the two talked all day long about plans for the house and when they should begin looking.
--Few Days Later—
“YOU’RE WHAT? If you move, who the hell am I supposed to talk to?” asked Nick after Brian broke the news to him. Brian laughed and put his hand on Nick’s shoulder.
“Nick man, I think it’s time you made a few friends other then myself and Angelina. Besides, you’ll always have Howie.” Nick stared blankly at Brian.
“Don’t get me wrong here, I love Howie, he’s my boy, but uh…He’s like hanging out with a sock puppet.” Brian nearly choked to death on his Diet Pepsi. He moved his head back with his hand covering his nose.
“Get me a paper towel!” Brian yelled. Nick was too busy cracking up to understand what Brian had said. When no paper towel was delivered, he grabbed the nearest thing to him which happened to be a newspaper and blew his nose on it. “Thanks a lot bud, I’ve got soda coming out of my nose and you piss yourself.” Nick regained his composure, giggling a little at intervals.
“What are friend for?” Nick grinned. “So, does she still hate me? I haven’t talked to her in a long time.” Brian shrugged.
“We didn’t talk about you. We were a little too busy.”
“Busy?” asked Nick, arching one of his eyebrows. “You whore!” he said laughing. “Well hey, I think this should go into the Guiness Book of World Records for the longest waiting period to get some sex in a relationship.” Brian laughed sarcastically.
“Yeah funny, Nick. I’m leaving,” he said grabbing his key off the counter and walking towards the door.
“Wait!” yelled Nick, running up behind him. He shoved him down on the couch and looked down at him. “What do you think I should do about Jill?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well…You know, with the whole me hooking up with Jenn thing. I kinda sorta haven’t talked to her since then and well…I don’t know what I’m doing or what I should do anymore. Any advice?”
“Jenn or Jill?” Nick stared at him blankly and sat next to him, he rubbed his hands over his face groaning.
“Why must life me so damn complicated?!” he said to no one in particular. “See, here’s the thing. I’ve been with Jill for a long ass time, and I do love her, but I mean…It’s like if I can be with someone as awesome and as beautiful as her, then ya know, how do I know that she’s the one? I mean maybe there’s someone else out there that’s better then her for me. With Jenn, God I don’t even know what’s going on. She told me that no matter what AJ did or said she’d never go back to him. She also said that she wouldn’t wait around for me, though. So, it’s like now or never. If I decide three days from now that I want to be with Jenn, she may be with someone else. Then there’s the possibility that Jill will never want to be with me again because of the little thing that happened.”
“Yeah, I have a feeling that cheating on your girlfriend isn’t going to leave her waiting and pinning over you. Something tells me that you’re not going to be able to just walk back into Jill’s life. If you do decide you want to be with Jill, you’re going to have to work at it. She’s not just going to be waiting for you. In fact, I heard AJ say something about taking her out to dinner.” Nick’s head jerked up.
“That little bastard! He’d better keep his fucking paws off cause I swear to God…”
“Nick, did you keep your paws off Jenn?” Nick dropped his head and looked at the carpeting.
“You’re right. So Jenn it is, huh? Jill’s not going to give me another chance and I know that. She told me when we first started dating that if I wanted to be with her, I’d have to swear on my life that I would never disrespect her and that if I did, to not even bother trying to regain her trust because it would be nothing but a lost cause. Trust and myself wouldn’t be in the same paragraph let alone the same sentence,” he sighed and ran his hand through his hair. “Man, I thought all this crap was easy.” Brian shook his head and slapped Nick’s knee.
“Well, buddy, I’ve got news. This crap is never easy. I mean look at me, I’ve been chasing after the same girl for the past what? Like almost a year now. I’m head over heels for this chick and half the time I don’t know if she even likes me. I guess that’s basically why I’m moving to California with her. I mean, maybe if we’re living together in a new place to both of us, our chances will be a bit higher then they are here.” Nick nodded.
“Life blows,” he groaned, leaning his head back on the couch. “I’m sick of talking about this, it’s giving me a headache. Do you know what we’re doing for Kev’s birthday? It’s just around the corner.”
“I don’t know. I’d like to do something with the whole crew, ya know? Like we did in ’97 but we’ll have to talk to the rest of the guys. I haven’t really been thinking about Kevin’s birthday lately,” said Brian, standing up and walking towards the door. Nick stood up and followed him.
“Yeah, me either. Want to go shopping like tomorrow for a present for him?” he asked, opening the door. Brian nodded, dangling his keys on his index finger.
“Sure. Hey, when I move, do you think I should keep my house here…ya know, just in case?”
“Yeah! You’re going to have to come back a lot ya know to record and stuff. I’d keep it cause it sure as hell beats staying in a hotel room.”
“True,” said Brian walking outside. “I’ll call you later about shopping tomorrow.” Nick nodded. “See ya,” he said walking down the steps. Nick waved and walked back inside, resuming his place on the couch to sort through his mind. Brian sped back to Angelina’s with his windows down and the cool winter air blowing cold across his face.
“Hey baby!” he said walking into her apartment. “Something smells damn good.”
“I was bored and starting baking. Big mistake because,” she paused to give Brian a quick kiss, “now I can’t stop. Come here,” she said pulling him to her and wrapping her arms around his body. She pressed her lips back against his. “There, that was better.” He smiled and walked into the kitchen.
“Damn girl!” he said gawking at the counters. The countertops were hardly visible underneath all of the cookies and other concoctions she’d come up with. She walked in and wrapped her arms around his waist from behind.
“I told you I can’t stop,” she said, tapping his stomach. “Start eating cause I don’t know what I’m going to do with all of this stuff now that it’s made.”
“It’s not even October and you’re already baking up a storm?! Damn, I don’t think I want to see what happens for Christmas!” She laughed walking over to the counter and removing another batch of cookies of the hot cookie sheet and onto the cooling rack. “Where are Killer and Tyke?” he asked, looking around.
“I think they’re on the porch or maybe in my room. I don’t really know. When the hell did you bring Tyke over anyway? After you left, I stumbled out of my room and nearly killed myself on the little guy. It took me a few minutes to figure out who’s dog it was,” she smiled watching him eating her cookies.
“I brought him with me yesterday, he was in my jacket. These are some damn good cookies right here,” he said picking up another one. “Oh hey, Nick wants to hang out tomorrow. He wants me to go shopping with him for Kev’s b-day. That cool?”
“Of course it’s cool! You know, another certain person’s birthday is just around the corner as well,” she said grinning.
“Girl, I’ve already got you covered. I’ve had your present ready for like three months now!”
“Oh God I’m scared,” she said smiling.
