"Morning Kevin." Laura greeted Kevin with a friendly smile. She was the only girl who was up…and Kevin was the only guy.
"Heya, Laura, how did you sleep?"
"Fine, fine. But…uh…did you hear a loud crash in the night? I did but I wasn’t sure what it was." Kevin tried not to laugh. "What?" Kevin started to laugh quietly, not looking at Laura. "Kevin! Why are you laughing at me?!" Laura was very sensitive early in the morning, and quickly lost her temper.
"Oh, I’m sorry, it’s not you." Laura raised her eyebrows. "Really, I promise." Laura relaxed, as Kevin stopped laughing. "Last night…Nick…uh…well…he…fell out of bed!" Kevin started laughing again as soon as he’d said it.
"What?!" Laura asked, also finding the thought of Nick falling out of bed very amusing.
"He says he didn’t fall, but…I think he did!"
"Well how else would he end up on the floor?! Unless someone…oh, man…" Laura realised what’d really happened.
"Unless someone what?"
"Unless someone…Hannah…pulled him out of bed."
"Ah." Realisation washed over Kevin as well.
"That girl is so gonna be in trouble with me when she gets up!" Laura clenched her fists angrily.
"Hey, Laura, hold it a second." Laura looked at Kevin questioningly. "Think about it…Nick tried to drop Hannah onto the floor last night…so she yanked him out of bed and onto the floor. She was kinda right to get revenge." Kevin argued reasonably. "Well, no-one should really seek revenge…but, yeah, I guess Nick was pretty mean to her before."
"Let’s let this one drop, yeah?" Kevin laughed again as he realised his pun - let this one drop. "And…don’t tell Nick…I want him to think that gravity has more control over him than he does." Laura shook her head amiably at Kevin’s request.
"Sure, I can let this one drop…" she said, stifling a laugh. "I can keep a secret too."
"Who’s keeping a secret?" Brian asked as he yawned loudly, walking toward the little dining area.
"Hey, if it’s something with secrets, I need to know!" Charlie exclaimed as she joined them. Kevin and Laura just rolled their eyes.
"There are no secrets, okay? Now, what are you guys having for breakfast?" Kevin offered Laura, Brian, and Charlie.
As the four ate their breakfast, the others eventually got up.
"Hello!" Kara said brightly. She was always the best morning person.
"Yo, what up?" AJ asked, heading for the bathroom.
"Morning." the four at the table acknowledged the two new-comers.
"Has AJ claimed the bathroom already?!" Howie whined. He always liked to fix himself up for the day before eating breakfast.
"Unfortunately, Howie, he has." Jessica sighed, running a hand through her hair. "I need the toilet, and the selfish idiot stuck his tongue out at me as he shut the door in my face." Brian grinned knowingly.
"That’s our AJ."
"So, where’s Hannah?" Jessica asked, scanning the area for her best friend.
"One guess." Charlie replied. Hannah was the youngest, and the laziest. As was Nick.
"And I’m guessing that Nick’s still asleep?" Howie asked.
"I don’t think he’s quite recovered from his little…uh…journey, last night." Brian said, laughing so that he almost choked on his cereal.
"What did we miss?" Kara asked suspiciously.
"Nick fell outta his bed last night." Brian told Kara with a smile. Kara returned it warmly.
"My God, he didn’t!" Jessica cried, laughing.
"Unfortunately he did." AJ said, back from his bathroom visit.
"MINE!" Jessica and Howie both cried, charging for the bathroom. But Jessica made it just before Howie, and poor D was left to wait again.
"Man, no fair." he grumbled, walking back to the breakfast area.
"The wanderer makes an entrance." AJ said, gesturing to Nick, who was sulkily making his way over to where the others had congregated. "Or should that be tumbler? Nick?" Nick just glared at AJ. His hair was all dishevelled and he kept rubbing his back.
"Feeling unusually sore this morning, buddy?" Brian asked, stifling a laugh. But the girls weren’t quite so tactful, and laughed out loud.
"Shut up." Nick looked as if he hadn’t slept very well at all. As Nick got himself a drink from the fridge, Hannah bounded in, looking unusually chipper for early-morning. Hannah usually had to be dragged kicking and screaming from her bed, and would spend the next hour or so looking bleary-eyed, and complaining about how the sun was too bright, and how it should have a dim-switch.
"Hi!" she smiled at everyone, and gave her sister a little morning hug.
"What are you on?" Charlie asked. She was joking of course, but Hannah really was acting strange. She was walking around the group of girls, giving them each a hug, and complimenting them on one aspect of themselves. Hannah was usually a cynical, sarcastic, mean morning person!
"I’m just happy, that’s all. I’m allowed to be happy aren’t I?"
"Kara, you’ve been giving her your happy-pills again!" Laura exclaimed with a grin.
"Dammit, I should’ve realised that they’re making our lives easier before I gave them to her."
"Making your lives easier?" AJ asked.
"You haven’t seen normal Hannah in the morning. She’s like some anti-morning monster." Charlie informed the guys honestly.
"Hi Nick!" Nick was the only person Hannah hadn’t greeted. Nick glared at her just as he’d glared at the others. "Ooh, someone get outta the wrong side of the bed this morning?" Hannah had to try her utmost to refrain from bursting out laughing. But the others thought it was hilarious, and they were all laughing, killing themselves.
"That was a classic, Hannah!" Brian told her, giving her a friendly pat on the back as he laughed. Hannah pretended to look confused.
"What did I say that’s so funny?"
"Oh, you don’t know!" Charlie said through her giggles. "Nick…"
"Shut up and leave me alone!" Nick blurted out, glaring at all of them. But this couldn’t stop them laughing, and Charlie told Hannah about Nick’s falling out of bed. But of course, Hannah knew already.
