"It's... it's beautiful, Sinbad," she said. "You really shouldn't have done this though, it's far too much."
"Nonsense. Just put it on, it'll look perfect, you'll see," Sinbad helped her put the necklace on. It had a short enough chain so that it was actually a choker, so that the pegasus dangled playfully around Maeve's collarbone. It really did look perfect.
"Do you like it?" Sinbad asked hopefully.
"Aye, it's beauti--" Maeve stopped short and gasped for breath.
"Maeve? What's wrong?"
"Nothing... must have swallowed a bug or something. I just suddenly felt like I couldn't breathe."
"Are you sure you're all right now?"
"Aye. I guess so."
"That's not very convincing," Sinbad observed.
"Well, it's just that... This necklace seems really tight," Maeve said while trying to somehow readjust it with her hands.
"Well, Maeve, it is a choker, you know," Sinbad commented sarcastically. Maeve just glared back at him.
"I know that, but I don't--" she stopped and gasped again, but this time she did not recover so quickly.
"Maeve?" Sinbad began to get concerned. She was practically tearing at the necklace now, trying her best to get it off and having no luck. Sinbad quickly pulled out his dagger and ordered Maeve to be still while he tried to help. Carefully he managed to slide the blade under the chain and cut it off of her.
Sinbad did not worry about trying to catch the necklace as it fell to the ground. The glass pendant hit the wooden dock and shattered into unrecognizable pieces. The couple paid it little mind until from the broken glass there started to come an eerie green mist that almost looked like it was glowing. The two couldn't help but back off a little as the mist began to take shape and out of it a dark figure appeared.
