Maeve groaned. She felt as if a rock had been dropped on her head. She sighed heavily and slowly opened her eyes. She squinted when met with bright light. She closed her eyes again and allowed herself to adjust. When she was comfortable she slowly opened her eyes. She wondered where she was then the memories of what happened flooded her mind. The hole! She thought, I was sucked in. I wonder if I am alive.
"Oh yes!" she heard a raspy loud and booming voice, "you are alive."
Maeve sat up her instinctive defenses kicking in. She was surprised to find herself in a large room locked in a cage. The room was about the size of the court of the Caliph of Baghdad. It was painted in gold. She saw hieroglyphics painted on the wall. Slowly she stood up and faced her captor. She could see that he was seated in a throne at the other end of the room. He was hooded. In the middle of the room was a sarcophagus. She frowned as she figured she must have been in the crypt of Horus.
"Well, that is obvious isn't it." The man with the voice said.
"You heard my thoughts!" Maeve was shocked.
"I am a sorcerer, am I not!" he said in a mocking tone.
Maeve gasped as she realized, "Taita!"
Section 2:
"Sinbad! Are you listening to me?" Firouz said for what seemed like the tenth time.
"Firouz, I know what I am doing." Sinbad yelled back.
"Let him be." Said Tessay.
"But…"
"Firouz!" shouted Sinbad.
"Okay." The young inventor shrugged.
"Sinbad, " said Mike after a long silence.
"WHAT?"
"Never speak to me like that!" Mike hissed.
"And what if I do?"
"Then I will be known as the man who made finally Sinbad a legend."
Sinbad could not stand it anymore. He jumped up from his place, caught a surprised Mike by the neck and rammed the latter against the wall.
Mike, who was equally good, gripped Sinbad's hand tightly, freed his neck and twisted Sinbad's arm and rammed Sinbad against the wall and said, "She will not defend you anymore Sinbad, no thanks to yourself."
Sinbad's eyes blazed with anger, he elbowed Mike in the stomach. Mike fell back loosening his grip on Sinbad with an "oomph!"
Sinbad drew out his saber and pressed it against the blond man's throat saying, "Don't you dare dishonour her."
Mike narrowed his eyes and in a swift movement drew out his own sword and almost threw Sinbad's sword out of his hands, had the captain not had a good grip on it. They started a heated a battle for a nonsensical reason.
Doubar and Duraid tried to separate the two from killing each other, but they could not stop the anger from eating the two men to whom Maeve meant so much. Neither gained the upper hand, and both seemed bent on killing each other.
Finally Tessay had enough, "ENOUGH!"
Almost immediately the two men stopped. Her face turned stern and she said, "That will be all. We cannot succeed if we kill each other." Sinbad and Mike glared at each other and broke away. Softly she added, "And this surely will not help Maeve."
Mike looked away, at this Tessay said, "She is not dead."
"What?" everyone except Sinbad said.
"That is what I have been trying to tell you." Said Sinbad; "If she were dead you think Dermott would sit around so irritably."
They noticed that Dermott was anything but quiet. He kept cackling excitedly. They saw the rationality in that. Tessay said, "wherever she is, she's sound but not safe. We have to go to her."
"How will we do that?" asked Bacheet, "the trapdoor is closed."
"That is what I am trying to figure out," said Tessay, "now if you will please stop trying to kill each other let me think of a way to get ourselves where Maeve is."
Sinbad looked at Mike who shot daggers through his eyes and looked at Tessay. He was still exhausted from his duel, so still panting he sat down. Sinbad followed suit. He sighed when Dermott made a suggestion of reaching out to Maeve. He closed his eyes and concentrated…but his mind was still clouded by his anger for Mike.
How dare he? Thought Sinbad, How dare he try to blame me for what happened to Maeve, he was there too…I can't believe…
You dolt! Stop indulging yourself in self pity, He heard another voice in his head, a familiar and beautiful female voice that did not belong to either Tessay, Yes it is me…but if you don't get here fast you will be talking to a dead woman.
Maeve! He exclaimed mentally, My love, are you all right?
NO…I am all wrong Sinbad, look I don't have much time…this idiot has kept me…AAAAAAAH!
Sinbad felt this moment of excruciating pain, he started choking suddenly, and everyone was surprised to see him acting so weirdly. When the pain went away he gasped as he realized that it was Maeve's pain he just felt.
"Sinbad!" concerned Doubar and Tessay asked; Tessay knew what was going on so her worry was double.
"Maeve…" Sinbad gasped.
"Maeve?" they all wondered.
Suddenly they each felt very queer. A wobbly feeling as if they were being lifted in the air. Firouz and Duraid felt extremely nauseous. Their vision began to blur.
Section 3:
Maeve strained to see what Taita was doing…When she was talking to Sinbad he sent a wave of magic through her body, coursing through her soul like the this burning feeling. What was weirder is that it seemed familiar as if she had experienced it before. However, the pain was still too much to allow her to analyze it.
"You spiteful wench! Now you have ruined all the fun! Oh well, I am losing patience, your two lovers and the others will be here soon!" he yelled in his raspy voice. Maeve took a deep breath as she realized that Taita was misting them to the crypt. She could see the black pearl that was resting on a cushion that was placed on a stand near the sarcophagus.
Dim Dim was right, it was the biggest pearl she had ever seen, as he had mentioned it was the size of two fists.
"Ah I see you like the newest addition to my collection." Taita said evilly.
"Taita, you'll never be able to control it." She said weakly just before he zapped her again. She hit the wall and slid down in pain.
"Silence wench!" he hissed.
She gritted her teeth to avoid saying anything. If this had been Rumina or Turok or any other person she would impulsively and instinctively let out the fire in her. However, Taita, was not an ordinary sorcerer, he was an insane sorcerer, blinded by his own madness. So she would have to be very careful of what she said.
She suddenly felt a magical disturbance, "oh no!" she whispered as there was a flash of light.
Section 4:
The crew and Mike's gang suddenly found themselves in a large room. It was painted in gold and had strange writings and drawings all over it. They found themselves facing a sarcophagus. However what surprised them more was, behind the sarcophagus from where they were standing there was a post, on the post was a cushion and resting on a cushion was the largest black pearl they had ever seen. Sinbad's bracelet began to glow he looked at it and figured that they had found the nature pearl.
"Oh yes!" they heard the voice of Taita, they turned to their left to see a middle aged man sitting on a throne. He stood up and said, "I brought you here…you see captain, your little girlfriend here was too loud mouthed."
They turned around to see Maeve leaned across the wall in a cage. From the look on her face she had been weakened terribly.
"Maeve!" Sinbad ran towards her prison. He caught the bars and suddenly he felt himself being thrown back as if he was electrocuted. The crew went over to help him up as Mike and Rongar went to inspect the cage. Sinbad was favouring his hands as he growled, "you bewitched it."
"Ingenious, isn't it!" Taita said with his mocking smile.
"Taita, my friend," Tessay spoke, "do you remember me?"
"Now my dearest Tessay, how can I forget you, how are you my sweet?"
"Taita, listen to me," she put on an imploring look on her face as she walked up to him, "this is crazy, why are you doing this?"
"Why shouldn't I?"
"You used to be such a good man, what happened to you?"
"What happened to me? What happened to me?" his voice got angrier, "go ask my family."
"My dear friend," said Tessay, "your family did not do this to you, You did this to you…there is still time…change for the better."
"Oh no my sweet!" he grinned evilly, "I like the worst in my…it gives me pleasure to put those in pain who have pained me."
"Taita, you will be destroyed by your own greed."
"SILENCE" Taita shouted. He was about to zap Tessay. But the innocent loving look on her face stopped him. He balled his hand into a fist and clenched it. He then suddenly cast his hand in the direction of Maeve's cage. The door flew open. Maeve hastily stepped out of it. Sinbad and Mike ran over to her, and helped her as she wobbled a bit.
"Taita…" Tessay smiled.
"You will feel my wrath, fools!" he raised his hands in the air and said some gibberish. Suddenly ten panels in the walls opened up…five on either side. They revealed ten sarcophagus' one in each. They opened and to the horror of all of them out stepped these giant mummies. Ten of them just walked out and arranged themselves in a single file.
"Umm…" said Firouz, "aren't they supposed to be dead?"
"Do they look dead to you?" said Duraid.
"Dead men walking." Echoed Doubar.
Sinbad who was supporting Maeve hugged her and said, "Are you all right?"
"For the moment" she nodded. she straightened herself as she was able to walk.
"Attack them!" Taita ordered the mummies.
"Oh SH**!" yelled Mike, "now what are we supposed to do?"
"Fight them," said Maeve as she pulled her sword out of its sheath. Rongar had it with him before.
"Lynn, how do we kill dead people?" Mike asked with a sarcastic smile.
"We'll soon find out!" she said as Sinbad and the others lunged at the gigantic creatures that must have been human beings at one point in life.
They struck and struck but not even a dent was caused.
"What are these things anyway?" asked Doubar as he just escaped being strangled by one of the mummies.
"They are supposed to be the guardians of Horus." Said Firouz as he pulled out his exploding sticks.
"No Firouz!" said Maeve…that could destroy the whole place.
"Maeve…we could use some magic here…" Sinbad gave her his killer look.
"I cannot destroy them one by one…If you can get them together I could finish them all at once." she said.
"Well, I know how to do that." Said Mike.
He ran up to one of them and struck him, and yelled, "Catch me if you can!" he ran thus making all the mummies come closer to each other, the others inspired by him, tried their best to get the mummies together.
Mean while Tessay was pleading with Taita, "Taita, please…for our friendship sake don't do this."
"That Taita is no more Tessay." Said Taita with a sad look. Suddenly they heard a loud explosion, the wheeled to see that Maeve had cast one of her HUGE fireballs and blown all ten mummies to kingdom come.
"NOW, MAEVELYN," yelled Taita, "I WILL MAKE YOU PAY." Saying so he raised his hand and zapped Maeve.
Maeve's anger flashed, her eyes began to flicker with fire, as she raised her hand a zapped him back.
"FOOL!" he laughed, "your parlour tricks won't do you any good!"
He was let out a beam of magic from his hand. It would have hit Maeve when a beam of equal intensity, coming from Maeve resisted it.
Tessay sighed, as the two waged a magical battle. She wished she could help Taita turn back to the good, however, he had left her with no choice. She summoned the powers of the high priestess and walked over to where the pearl was resting. Taita was too busy to notice.
Maeve was weakening fast, she could not hold back any more, Taita's beam was over powering hers and before she knew it, her magic weakened so badly that his beam of magic hit her with full force. She felt a familiar but sickly presence entering her. Distantly she could hear Sinbad and Mike asking her is she was okay. Suddenly she felt as if someone caused a dimensional disturbance. She opened her eyes and saw Taita yelling "NOOOOO!" as Tessay lifted up the pearl and began chanting. She looked at Taita and whispered, "I am sorry." Just before a dark cloud surrounded him (which was weird since they were inside a pyramid) and struck him left and right with lightning. Maeve relaxed in Sinbad's strong arms as he helped her stand up.
"NOOOOOO!" was what they finally heard from Taita as he was zapped to ashes.
When it was done, Tessay sadly placed the pearl on the cushion and lifted the cushion. She said, "Come on we shall go to this Isle of Philae, now."
"Now? But it is on the Nile?" frowned Bacheet.
"The pearl will take us," she sighed. She closed her eyes and concentrated….
In a flash of light they found themselves in a temple, they had never seen before. Maeve said, "This is the temple of Isis."
Sinbad nodded as he helped Maeve keep her balance.
Tessay said, "I am going to place the pearl in the protection, now."
Saying so she went inside. It was only until about a few minutes when they heard a clap of thunder and outside it started raining. They looked about in surprise when they had that wobbly feeling again.
They found themselves outside the pyramid, with Talia staring at them with wide-open eyes.
Section 5:
While they were in the pyramid, it had started snowing. There was a major blizzard waging, when suddenly, there was this loud clap of thunder and suddenly the weather turned to normal sunshine, as it should have been at that time of the year.
Talia was surprised at the weather, but even more surprised when out of nowhere the crew appeared in front of them. Maeve who was completely exhausted sat down on the comfortable sand.
"What happened?" asked Talia.
Excited Doubar and Firouz told her the whole story while Sinbad asked Maeve, "where is Tessay?"
"She is at the isle. She has to complete the rituals and then she'll come to see us." Maeve sighed.
"Are you sure you are okay?" Mike was concerned.
"I am fine Mike." She said and picked herself up. She went to the supplies to get some water.
Sinbad and Mike watched her go. Sinbad swallowed his pride and said, "I apologize for acting like that."
"No, I provoked you, I am sorry too."
"Mike, you are a good man, I can see why Maeve likes you."
"And I can see why she loves you." Mike smiled genuinely.
They looked at each other and laughed. Sinbad offered his hand and Mike sincerely shook it as if accepting a new friendship. However, under his breath he muttered, enough for only Sinbad to hear, "But, if you ever hurt her sailor, I swear I'll kill you my self." Saying so he left Sinbad's hand and walked towards his men. Sinbad laughed and shook his head and went after Maeve. He could feel Dermott, smiling mentally.
Section 6:
The roaring cackle of the fire suppressed the low moans and giggles of pleasure coming from the two lovers, making hot and passionate love to one another. They were barely covered with a blanket, as they lay on a plain mat in front of the fire. Sinbad was exploring the contours of Maeve's face as he slowly kissed her. His head moved to her neck as he went over all that had happened.
After the pearl was restored weather returned to normal and everyone was happy again. The pharaoh was so pleased with the crew that he insisted that they stay in the palace until they departed for Alexandria. The governor had been alerted before hand about the delay in goods. That night after dinner Maeve was about to indulge in a hot bath when Sinbad somehow, 'accidentally' stopped by. And the rest was as it was now.
Maeve was out of breath as she picked herself up. Sinbad propped himself up on an elbow as he watched her move her perfect body to where the towel lay. She smiled as she came up to him and kissed him and said wickedly, "you were amazing."
He grinned back; "I can show you more."
Maeve said, "Save it for later, captain, I wanna have a bath."
Saying so she went up to the bathing pool exclusively for that room. The pharaoh made sure his guests had all the luxury and privacy they needed. Maeve turned around and winked, "care to join me?"
Sinbad stood up and walked up to her. He kissed her tenderly and suddenly picked her up, cradling her in his arms saying, "I thought you'd never ask."
She giggled as he carried her to the bathing chamber.
Maeve titled her head to the other side as Sinbad kissed her neck. After splashing each other in the pool and having fun, he decided to laze around for a while. They were still in the warm and comforting water. She was resting herself in his arms, her back to him, sighed and let her head rest on his shoulder as his hands moved to her stomach and gently teased it. He massaged her shoulders as she felt the tension going away…yet something was bothering her.
Sinbad sensed this sooner than she thought he would, "What is it, my love?" he asked. She sighed and took his other hand in hers and played with his fingers as she said, "Sinbad, you know when Taita used his magic on me I had this feeling…"
"What feeling?" he said as he kissed her shoulder.
"It was the same feeling I had before that spell was cast on me, you know, where I got lost in my dreams."
Sinbad frowned as he remembered, then the realization hit him, "you mean…"
"Taita…he cast the spell on me…"
"But why? Did you ever know him?"
"No…I never saw him in my whole life." She said as she aligned her head so that it would be tucked under her chin. Sinbad played with her hair as he said, "Then why did he do that to you?"
Maeve shrugged as he kissed her head, she frowned and sighed as she gave up trying to figure it out, then she said, "And now that he's dead…we'll never know."
