Kevin:
I was sitting in the studio, all of us waiting on Nick to arrive. We already went over some songs and everything.
“Hey you guys have a press conference at noon guys,” our manager said coming in.
“I thought that was tomorrow,” AJ asked confused.
“No, today,” he said.
“Well, we’ve only got a few hours to record then,” AJ said standing up.
“Sorry Im late!” Nick said running in breathlessly.
“Its ok man. We need to get some work done though, we’ve got a press conference at noon,” Brian said.
*Noon*
“Ok, we’ll take questions,” I said. A crowd full of journalist jumped up raising their hands high in the air.
“You,” Nick said pointing to a young woman.
“Hi, when should we be expecting your next album?” she asked.
“We’re planning on the release somewhere in the middle of September,” Brian answered.
“Next question,” I said.
We got through a series of questions and finally came the most predicted question, “Do any of you have girlfriends?”
I didnt look at any of the guys. Lexi and I werent dating, just learning more about each other.
“Im single,” I announced, “but interested in someone.”
“Who?” a journalist asked.
“I wont release her name,” I said.
“Im single,” Brian followed.
“Im single too,” Nick said.
“Im single,” AJ said. I looked at him shocked. I cant believe he just said that. As much as he likes Micki, I would think he’d want to tell everyone. Brian, Nick, and Howie were all staring at him shocked as well.
“Well, Im seeing someone,” Howie finished.
“Who?” someone asked.
“I wont release her name. We’ll just say she was a close friend of mine,” he said.
Micki:
“Hey look, the boys are doing a press conference,” I announced. Megan, Leah, and I were all sitting around my living room. All three of us called of work to stay home.
“I didnt know they had a press conference,” Leah said sitting down.
“Neither did I,” I said. The boys went through a series of questions and the girlfriend question came up.
“Im single,” Kevin announced, “ but interested in someone.”
“Lexi,” the three of us said at the same time.
“Im single,” Brian said.
“Not for long,” I said looking at Leah.
Im single too,” Nick told the press.
“He is so fine,” Megan gushed.
“Im single,” AJ said.
Oh my goodness. I swear my heart stopped beating. Ok, so we havent been dating long, but we were dating and it still hurt. There has to be a reason he said it.
“Maybe he said it because he doesnt want 13 years olds harrassing you,” Leah said comforting me.
The tears glistened my eyes.
Well, Im seeing someone,” Howie finished.
“He told the world he was with Adrienne and me and AJ have been together longer,” I said pointing at the tv.
“Dont think he meant to hurt you Micki. He didnt even know you were going to be watching,” Leah said.
“It still hurts,” I said and got up.
“I shouldve went to work,” I said and walked to my room. I shut and locked my door and layed on my bed and stared at the wall. What if he didnt want to be with me? Oh G-D, please no. I cant lost AJ. We were meant for each other. I know it.
“Micki hon, let me in,” Leah said knocking.
“Micki, let us in,” Megan followed.
Nick:
I can not believe AJ did that. Megan told me last night that the girls took the day off and were just going to sit around tomorrow.
What if Micki saw that?
“Man, what the hell were you thinking?” I asked AJ as we walked away.
“Man, there’s press around. We’ll talk about it later,” AJ said and walked off.
“I cant believe he did that,” Brian whispered coming up next to me.
“Me either,” I said. We all left the building and got into our separate cars. AJ didnt even look at any of us as he left.
I drove home, since we were done at the studio for the day and as soon as I walked into the door, my phone was ringing. I rushed to the phone and picked it up.
“Hello?” I asked breathlessly.
“Nick!” Megan exclaimed.
“Hey Megan,” I said catching my breath.
“Do you know what that was about?” she asked.
Yep, the girls saw it. Micki must be pissed.
“I have no clue why he did that. He wouldnt talk to us after the conference,” I told her.
“Well, Micki’s locked herself in her room and wont come out now thanks to AJ,” Megan sighed.
“I dont think he meant any harm by it. It was probably for her own protection,” I said making up excuses.
“I dont know, but it upset Micki,” Megan said.
“I guess we’ll just have to wait to see if AJ wants to give us an excuse,” I said.
“Yeah, I guess so. You guys arent recording the rest of today?” she asked.
“Nope, we start again first thing tomorrow morning though,” I told her.
We talked for a few more minutes and then she had to go, Micki was emerging from her room. When I hung up, I called AJ’s cell phone, trying to get an answer out of what he did.
“Yo,” he answered.
“Hey AJ, wanna tell me now?” I asked.
“Nice to talk to you too. Im fine thanks for asking and yourself?” he asked sarcastically.
“Shut up AJ. What was it about?” I asked.
“Damn, Nick you sound like a girl, trying to find out the scoop and everything. Its not that big of a deal,” AJ said.
“Yeah, well, Micki saw it and let me tell you she’s not happy about it,” I said.
“She saw it?” AJ asked, his voice getting soft and low.
“Yeah, she locked herself in her room and wouldnt talk to Megan or Leah,” I told him.
“Damnit!” AJ exclaimed.
“Wanna tell me now?” I asked.
“I just did it for her own protection. I didnt want people up her butt anytime she went anywhere,” he sighed.
“Well, she’s got a completely different impression of the whole thing,” I told him.
“I gotta go,” he said and hung up.
Leah:
Well, Micki just decided she wanted to emerge from her cave as soon as Megan hung up the phone with Nick.
“I just got off the phone with Nick,” Megan told her.
“And?” Micki asked bitterly.
“AJ didnt say anything to the guys about it,” she said softly.
“Maybe he meant it for your own protection,” I suggested.
“Thats what Nick said,” Megan told us.
“It still hurts though, you know?” she asked.
“Yeah, we know,” I said softly.
Just then the doorbell rang. Micki looked at the two of us and took a deep breath.
“Maybe it’s him,” I suggested.
“Go ahead and answer the door, I have to pee,” Micki said and calmly walked to her bathroom. I walked to her front door and opened it. Sure enough, AJ was standing there, dark sunglasses covering his eyes.
“Is Micki here?” he asked taking off his hat and sunglasses.
“Yeah, come in,” I offered.
“Come on Megan, let’s go now. They need to be alone,” I said.
“Ok,” Megan whispered and put on her shoes.
“I take it you guys saw the press conference?” AJ asked.
“Yeah,” I answered.
“Micki’s mad, isnt she?” he asked.
“You could say that,” I shrugged.
“I didnt mean to hurt her,” AJ assured me.
“Tell her that, not us,” I said as Micki walked into the room.
“Bye Mick,” Megan and I said and walked out of the house.
“Let’s not go far, I wanna know what happens,” Megan whispered.
“Same here,” I agreed.
Megan and I walked to the park and each got on a swing. We sat in silence for awhile, just looking onto the river.
“What do you think is happening?” Megan asked.
“I dont know. But they better not be breaking up,” I said.
“Yeah, I know,” she agreed.
“I guess she’ll give us the details as soon as she knows whats going on,” I shrugged.
