Chapter One

"Megan, hurry up!" Micki yelled to her best friend of thirteen years. They were supposed to be on their way to get Megan fitted for her maid of honor dress. In less than three weeks Micki would be marrying her boyfriend of three years, Matt. Matt and Micki were the perfect couple. They were so much alike you'd think they shared a mind. It was already 2:30 and they had to make a forty minute drive to make an appointment in thirty minutes. Micki was planning a beautiful wedding. It was going to be a garden wedding in the backyard of her mother and stepfather's mansion-like home.

Micki stood in the doorway of Megan's gorgeous apartment that she shared with her roommate, Jillian. Jillian and Megan attended the same college and had a few classes together. Micki tapped her foot annoyed at her friends irresponsibility. "Megan we need to go, now!" Micki shouted as her friend appeared from out of the closet where she searched for one of her shoes. Micki couldn't help but admire Megan. Megan was very pretty. She had blond hair and piercing blue eyes that had a tendency to always sparkle.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Megan begged for forgiveness as she slipped on her sneaker.

The girls ran to Micki's car, a white Honda Civic. Micki drove as quickly, but as safely as she could. Finally the girls made it to the wedding boutique to get Megan fitted, five minutes late. As Megan and Micki walked into the boutique, causing the lady behind the desk look up.

"Micki and Megan?" she asked.

"Yes ma'am," Micki said flashing the lady a friendly smile.

"Right this way," she said leading Micki and Megan towards the back. The woman had a lavender thin strapped dress sitting out. "Please stand up here," the lady ordered Megan.

Megan followed her instructions. Micki sat down in a chair and picked up a bridal magazine. Micki had already been fitted for her gown. Micki just thought the gown was beautiful, she fell in love with it the moment she laid eyes on it. Micki flipped through the magazine absent-mindedly. All the plans for the wedding were done and the only thing they had to look forward to was the magical day itself. Micki was so excited about getting married. Micki looked beautiful in her gown. She planned on wearing her long shin y brown hair up and the vail flowed wonderfully down her back. Micki had brown eyes to match her brown hair and she was a very nice person all around.

Micki threw down the magazine and looked down at her engagement ring. It was beautiful. She smiled as she twirled it around. Micki looked up at her best friend. Megan looked very uncomfortable as the lady worked her magic. Megan, Micki knew, would look beautiful. After a long hour and a half the girls were free to do what they wanted.

"Let's hit the mall! I want to get my nails done," Micki said.

"Ok, sounds like fun, maybe I'll get my nails done too," Megan said, as they got into Micki's car.

"My treat," Micki told Megan.

"Great!"Megan agreed, smiling.

The girls drove to the mall and began to browse. "I like that shirt," Micki said, pointing to a mannequin standing in the window of her favorite store, Gap.

"Get it," Megan persisted.

"I don't know. I don't have enough money, you know since the wedding and everything, Micki shrugged and kept walking.

later in the evening...

"Matt! When are you coming home?" Micki asked her fiancee over the phone. It was 7:30 in the evening, Matt was supposed to be home two hours ago.

"I don't know. I'm at Jerry's," he told Micki.

Micki slumped down into the kitchen chair and sighed. Her boyfriend wasn't being good at company lately. "Matt, I didn't get to see you all day!" Micki whined.

"I know, but Jerry hasn't seen me in a while," Matt argued.

"You saw Jerry yesterday!" Micki whined even more. "Yeah, I saw you yesterday too." Matt pointed out, giving Micki a slight attitude.

"Whatever, Matt."Micki snapped.

"I'll see you later." Matt told her.

"Are you coming home tonight?" she asked, hopeful. Matt and Micki have lived together for about a year and a half, but sometimes he stayed at his friend's house, especially when the guys had a party.

"Maybe..." Matt answered, slightly annoyed at Micki for keeping him on the phone for so long.

"Whatever Matt. Bye." Micki said hanging up the phone. She sighed and looked at the clock. It was 7:37. Micki looked at around the kitchen and sighed again. Matt was being kind of mean to her tonight. She turned on the phone and dialed Megan's phone number.

"Hello?" Jillian answered, in her usual cheerful voice.

"Hey Jillian, is Megan around?" Micki asked, in a sad voice.

"Uh huh, hold on." Jillian went looking for Megan.

Micki tugged at her long hair and straightened out her white tank top and short blue jean shorts. She was really hoping maybe Megan wanted to go out to a club or something. She wasn't that into clubs, but it was worth a shot.

"Hello?" Megan asked, breathlessly.

"Hey Meg, do you wanna go out to a club tonight?"Micki asked, the tears swelling in her eyes. She looked around the kitchen table and looked at the nice dinner she had made for Matt. It was supposed to be a romantic evening with just the two of them, but Matt wrecked the plans. Micki thought she had worked out the perfect surprise for Matt, but she was left disappointed.

"Uh, Mick, I got to study for finals." Megan said, the tone of her voice apologized.

"Oh, that's ok, maybe I can find someone else." Micki said, getting up and walking towards the bathroom.

"What about the romantic evening with Matt?" Megan asked concerned.

"He wants to hang out with Jerry tonight, not me." Micki said, feeling the lump in her throat.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Megan said sympathetically

It's ok, talk to you later." Micki said.

"Bye," Megan said.

Click.

Micki thought of her other best friend, LaDawn, but LaDawn was in Michigan, visiting her father, and would be returning just days before the wedding. Luckily she was already fitted for her bridesmaid dress.

"Nothing to do," Micki moped, "I know, I'll just go by myself. I'll show Matt for not coming home to me."

Micki walked back to her bedroom and opened her closet doors and studied her clothes. She decided on a short thin strap black dress. She changed and pulled her hair up in a neat style and left the house, without one regret.

Meanwhile...

"Wanna go to a club?" A.J. asked his friend, Nick. Nick wasn't big on clubs, but tonight, the guys were especially bored.

"Yeah, I guess," Nick agreed.

"Cool, call the other guys and see if they want to go," A.J. ordered Nick.

The guys were sitting around A.J.'s apartment bored and looking for something to do. With the guys off of their Backstreet's Back tour, it left a lot of free time for them. The Backstreet Boys were so popular, the guys were constantly being thrown at by girls of ALL ages. A.J walked to the back and changed into different clothes. When he returned he found Nick sitting on the couch.

"No one wants to go," Nick announced.
