Love & Life: Sequel To Confused Love

Chapter 1

“Hello.” Misty said as she answered her phone.

“Hi, this is Doctor Roberts may I please speak with Misty.” The man on the other end asked.

“This is her.” Misty replied confused about why a doctor would be calling her.

“I have regret to inform you that your brother and parents were in a fatal car accident.” Doctor Roberts told her.

“Wh....wh....what? No!!!” Misty dropped the phone and fell crying.

Two minutes later Devon, Misty and Brian’s baby boy, woke up and began crying in his crib. Misty was so upset she didn’t even hear the cries of her son. Both Misty and Devon continued to cry. Then about an hour later, Brian walked in from work. Brian heard the baby crying and immediately ran into Devon’s room.

“Hey guy, what’s wrong? Where’s mommy?” Brian thought out loud.

Brian picked up Devon and rocked him in his arms while he was walking around the house looking for Misty. Then her saw her huddled in a ball on the kitchen floor in a corner rocking back and forth.

“Misty, did you not hear Dylan crying or were you just ignoring our son?” Brian asked Misty a little frustrated.

Misty gave no reply and continued rocking back and forth.

“Misty are you listening to me?” Brian asked louder.

Misty again did not answer. It was like she couldn’t hear him and was in a world of her own. Brian even tried shaking her shoulder, but she wouldn’t respond in any way. It kinda worried him, so he went to call Heidi and Brandi. Holding Devon in one arm he picked up the phone with the other and began calling. Within 20 minutes both Heidi and Brandi were over.

“I don’t know what is wrong with her.” Heidi said after trying to get Misty’s attention.

“I don’t either. Did anything happen?” Brandi asked.

“No, I mean I don’t know. I came home and Devon was crying hysterically. I went to get Devon and then I saw Misty just sitting here like this.” Brian told them.

“Maybe we should take her to a doctor.” Brandi suggested.

Brian handed Devon over to Heidi and then tried to get Misty up. As soon as he touched her and tried getting her on her feet she went hysterical and began fighting him. Then she went back to rocking herself back and forth in the corner.

“Misty, what’s wrong with you? Why are you doing this?” Brian asked.

Misty still did not answer. She was off in a world of her own.

“I’ll go call Nick and Justin. They can come over and help you get Misty up, so we can take her to the hospital.” Heidi said.

Heidi called and the guys arrived in about another 20 minutes. When they got to Brian’s house Brandi immediately let them in and took them to the kitchen where everyone else was.

“So, what exactly is going on?” Justin asked.

“Yeah, and what do you need us for? We can’t help her.” Nick said looking down at Misty.

“You guys need to help Brian try to get Misty up, so we can take her to the hospital to be seen by a doctor. Earlier when Brian tried alone Misty went crazy and was fighting horribly.” Heidi explained.

“Fine then let’s do this.” Justin said.

Brian, Nick, and Justin all tried to pick Misty up and they had her for a minute, but then Misty picked up a knife and swung it at them.

“Whoa! I say we get the girl a straight jacket.” Nick said.

“I say we call the police and let them suggest something.” Justin said.

“Remember this is my girlfriend and mother of my son. Come on now. Get real.” Brian scolded them.

“As much as I hate to say this, I agree with Justin on this one.” Brandi said.

“I do too.” Heidi said.

“Fine, we’ll call the police and see what they suggest, but leave out the knife part.” Brian told them.

Justin went to go and call the police from the living room on his cell phone. Soon after the police had arrived and he escorted the two police officers into the kitchen.

“What seems to be the problem with this young lady?” The male police officer asked.

“We don’t know. That’s why we called you.” Brandi responded.

“Well, we would love to help you, but unfortunately we are not doctors. My first suggestion to you would be to call a psychiatric ward.” The female police officer said.

“What? She’s not a lunatic.” Brian shouted.

“Sir, this young lady seems to be completely out of control of herself. She doesn’t even seem conscious of the world around her. We’re not saying she is a lunatic, but we are saying that she needs to be checked out.” The male officer told Brian.

“There’s one problem. We can’t get her up. When we try she gets hysterical and fights.” Heidi told the police officers.

“Why don’t we get her in our squad car and take her to the ward and you all can follow us if you would like?” The female officer suggested.

“Thanks, but no thanks. She doesn’t need to go to a psych ward. She is probably just ill.” Brian said angrily.

“Brian, I know this is hard for you, but we need to find help for Misty. It may be the only thing we can do to help her right now.” Heidi told Brian putting a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

“I just don’t know if I can sit here and let them take her away to a mental hospital.” Brian said sadly. “We have a son who needs his mother.”

“Brian, if we don’t get Misty help he may never have his mother back to normal. None of us, especially you, want to see that.” Brandi told him putting a reassuring hand on his other shoulder.

“Yeah man, listen to the girls. They know what they are talking about. We have to do this.” Nick agreed.

Brian gave the police officers the ok to take Misty away. The police officers cuffed Misty’s hands, so she wouldn’t be able to fight them when they tried to get her in the squad car. After struggling with her about 10 minutes they finally got her in the car. Brian, Heidi, and Brandi all got in Brandi’s convertible blue mustang after putting Devon in a car seat and followed the squad car to the mental institution. After arriving at the institution the police officers were joined by two of the psychiatric ward workers. They brought out a straight jacket and a stretcher to strap Misty down. Just as they were rolling Misty in on the stretcher with the straight jacket the others pulled up.

“What the hell do you think you are doing to her?” Brian yelled jumping out of the car.

“We are just doing our job. Please back away sir.” One of the workers told Brian.

“She is my girlfriend and you have no right doing this to her. She was only supposed to be seen by one of the doctors here.” Brian yelled.

“She was fighting, so we have to restrain her. Sir, she will be seen immediately by the doctor and once he is done he will talk to you. Meanwhile go wait in the waiting room on the lower floor, 1st door to the right.” The other worker argued.

Heidi and Brandi got Dylan and finally caught up with Brian who stood there watching the two workers roll Misty into the elevator. Then they all went into they waiting room and sat down. Two hours later Brandi was rocking Devon who was sleeping in her arms as Heidi was trying to comfort Brian who was a nervous wreck.

“It’s been two hours and still no doctor or anyone has come to tell us what is wrong. Something is really wrong. I can’t take it no more. I’m going to go find out what happened.” Brian said jumping up from the couch and going toward the door.

“Brian, you can’t. You have to stay calm and wait.” Heidi tried to get him to sit back down.

“You must be the people here for Misty.” A doctor said walking in the waiting room. “My name is Doctor Walters.”

“Yeah, how is she? What’s wrong? Can I take her home now? She doesn’t belong here.” Brian spoke quickly not letting the doctor get a word in.

“I’m afraid Misty is not able to go home. I have managed to get a few words out of her and determine her problem, however.” Doctor Walters said once Brian got quiet.

“What’s her problem?” Brandi asked standing with Devon still in her arms.

“When I was talking she said a few words over and over again under hypnosis. She kept repeating ‘No, no they can’t be dead. My parents and brother can’t be dead. They couldn’t have died in a car wreck.’ Apparently, Misty received a call from a hospital in Missouri saying her parents and brother were killed in a tragic car wreck. The loss of her family was so hard on her that it has driven her insane.” Doctor Walters explained.

“Misty is not insane and you have no proof that what she was saying is true. It could have been a nightmare.” Brian protested.

“No, it was not a nightmare. I called around the hospitals where Misty’s family is from and one hospital in fact did say they were the ones who called Misty earlier this afternoon.” Doctor Walters went on. “I regret to inform you that Misty’s conditions are very severe and she will not ever be back to the Misty she was before. She will be insane for the rest of her life and remain here under our care. The best thing you can do is forget all about her.”

“Forget all about her. How can you say that? She is the mother of my only son and love of my life and you want me to forget all about her. You have no idea what you are talking about. How could you ever say anything like that.” Brian was yelling with frustration.

“Brian, come on. Let’s go for a walk and let Heidi talk with the doctor a minute.” Brandi said getting Brian to walk to the car with her.

“Can we at least visit her sometimes?” Heidi asked concerned after Brian and Brandi walked to the car with Devon.

“No, we find that the best way for loved ones to handle this kind of situation is to let them go on with their lives and try to help them forget. If we allow visiting you won’t ever forget.” Doctor Walters explained.

“So, there is nothing else we can do then?” Heidi asked.

“No, I’m sorry. Now, if you can excuse me I must get back to work.” Doctor Walters leaving the waiting room.

Heidi walked out of the waiting room and went to the car. Brian was in the back of the car holding his son, Devon close and crying. Brandi was in the driver’s seat with a frown on her face. Heidi got in the car and Brandi drove off. The whole way to Brian’s house everyone was silent not knowing what to say.

“Thanks guys.” Brian said getting out of the car with Devon and walking toward his front door.

“Brian, you and Devon can stay with me and AJ for awhile if you would like.” Heidi offered.

“No thanks, I would rather be alone.” Brian said walking in the house with his son.

After that Brandi drove Heidi home and went to her own house.
