NOTES on WIDE AWAKE IN AMERICA

Generally, WIDE AWAKE IN AMERICA is horrendously overpriced any where you go, despite the fact that it's not an import or a bootleg, or even out of print. I avoided buying a copy for the longest time because of this fact; however, once you find it at the cheapest possible price in your area ($9.99 for me), it's WELL worth the buy. "Bad" and "A Sort Of Homecoming" are probably two of the best U2 live performances captured on CD.
"The Three Sunrises" and "Love Comes Tumbling" (Also available on THE BEST OF 1980-1990/THE B-SIDES) are emblematic of the shift in U2's sound that went on between THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE and THE JOSHUA TREE. Both of them have the ethereal guitar quality of FIRE, but they also share a wide-open feeling of vastness that characterized the "American" feel of THE JOSHUA TREE. The effect of listening to "The Three Sunrises" while driving through the expanses and deserts of Arizona is disconcerting, to say the least (I can say from personal experience).
