I really thought WWTT was a joke. I thought it was stupid. Who cares what the Boys think? All they do is sing and dance and smile for the camera, right? Then I read the new purpose for WWTT and what they had to say made more sense. I read the Rolling Stone article too [“The Boys In The Bubble” Dec. 2000]. I got a wake up call: Hey, Wendy, they’re real people too.
It was the part where AJ was talking about this girl who is stalking him or whatever. Talk about creepy! But the worse part was that I had just finished reading a fanfic that had a group of girls stalking the BSB. In the fanfic, two of the BSB died because of these stalkers, but thank heavens it didn’t happen in real life.
I could never wish anyone dead, but there are so many stories where the BSB are hurt or attacked or killed. So many acts of violence these days are blamed on tv, movies, music, and other media forms. But no one cares that these fanfic writers are “killing off” these celebrities. AJ was forced to stay in his hotel room because some obsessed fan wanted to pull a “Romeo & Juliet” with him. These guys have to protect themselves so much in real life, but in the world of fiction, no one really cares if they get knocked off.
I don’t think WWTT is a joke anymore. It’s a really serious issue. Ask yourself what would they think if they read a story YOU wrote that had them injured or killed. Yeah, I’m sure that’s the way to get in their good books. I’m sure they’d love to hang out with you. I’m sure their bodyguards and security would be glad to have you around. The next time you think they’re just being paranoid, think again. They’ve got a good reason to be worried… the evidence is all over the Internet.
