I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!
Chapter Seventeen

Recap: “I didn’t mean it like that Mac.” A.J. said turning to look at Mac.
“Then how did you mean it A.J.?” Mac said turning toward A.J. letting tears stream down her face.
“You’ll find out before the evening is over. I promise. Please forgive me. I didn’t mean for it to come out that way. Let’s go back inside, please” A.J. asked with the infamous puppy dog eyes. Mac couldn’t help but smile. She was falling in love with him more and more everyday, but she couldn’t tell him.
“Alright J. You’ve convinced me. Let’s go finish our dinner.” Mac said as A.J. wiped away some tears that had fallen. He grabbed her hand, and they walked back inside to have their dinner.

A.J. and Mac finished their dinner and sat at the table laughing and drinking Merlot. A.J. stared at Mac and took in her beauty. He stared at how her dress clung in all the right places, and how her hair framed her face.
“Would you like to dance?” A.J. said standing up and offering his hand to Mac.
“I would love to.” Mac replied as she took A.J.’s hand and he led them into the living room. A.J. made sure that all of Mac’s favorite songs were playing. Mac loved Ella Fitzgerald, and A.J. knew it. When they walked into the room ‘Isn’t it romantic’ was playing.
“A.J. Wow. You’ve really thought of everything. This is amazing.”
“I’m glad you like it.” A.J. said twirling Mac into his arms. They stayed like that and listened to the words of the song.
‘Isn’t it romantic? Music in the night, a dream that can be heard. Isn’t it romantic? Moving shadows write the oldest magic word. I hear the breezes playing in the trees above. While all the world is saying you were meant for love. Isn’t it romantic? Merely to be young on such a night as this. Isn’t it romantic? Every note that’s sung is like a lover’s kiss. Sweet cymbals in the moonlight. Do you mean that I will fall in love perchance? Isn’t it romantic?’
Mac was loving every second of this. She felt as if it was always supposed to be this way. Next played her favorite song, by another one of her favorite guys: Nick. He came on the stereo singing ‘I Need You Tonight’.
‘Open up your heart to me, and say what’s on your mind. I know that we have been through so much pain.  But I still need you in my life. I need you tonight. I need you right now. I know deep within my heart. It doesn’t matter if it’s wrong or right. I really need you tonight…All I know is baby, I really need you tonight.’
Those words spoke right to Mac’s heart. She needed A.J., but did he need—or even want her?
 “Mac?”
 “Yeah?”
“I need to tell you something. Please don’t freak out and let me finish o.k?” A.J. said reluctantly pulling away from Mac to look her in the eyes.
 “O.k. Shoot.”
“I have been such a fool. I’ve been a fool for the past 21 years. I never realized what I had right in front of me this entire time. Nick noticed though. I’m sorry that he hurt you, and I’m sorry that you hurt him. He loved you—he still does. He helped me plan tonight for you—for us. He knew you loved me the whole time. But I never knew if I loved you.” A.J. looked at Mac who had tears in her eyes and a fearful look on her face. A.J. continued, “but now I know.”
“So what’s the verdict?” Mac said looking at her hands, “Do you love me?” A.J. didn’t answer her. He moved closer to her and kissed her. It was a sweet, passionate, all-knowing kiss. A.J. and Mac slowly pulled away from each other.
 “Yes.” A.J. said simply.
