Operatives Are Your Friends Too

Who says operatives are ruining the game? What's wrong with a little variety? The only thing we've seen on the BBS and the ListServ for the past two weeks as griping, whining and bitching about operatives. They're too strong, they're broken, they're ruining the game. Well, here's what I have to say.

Number 1, this argument is nothing new. We've heard it all before. Remember Asteroid Sanctuary?  They're too strong, they're broken, they're ruining the game. Remember Inserts? They're too strong, they're broken, they're ruining the game. Remember the manipulator? They're too strong, they're broken, they're ruining the game. The BBS is starting to sound like a broken record. It seems that the knee-jerk response to new deck styles that broaden the horizons of the game is to cry "Ban 'em! Errata 'em!" Let's just pretend they don't exist! What's worse is that the holier than thou players seem to feel there should be shame in playing and winning tournaments by playing operatives. Operatives are a legitimate,LEGAL and fun and interesting way to play SWCCG. There is no cheating involved, no underhanded play, no bending or twisting of the rules. Operatives are another way to expand the SW universe. Should we all play the same decks? Is that what you want? Mains and toys on Tattooine. It seems like that is what many feel is the only honorable deck available. Everything else is Cheese. I feel sorry for those that feel this way. Open your minds and open your eyes people.

Secondly, Operatives can be beaten. All of the above decks could also be beaten. The problem has always been people are too lazy or ignorant to make the necessary adaptations. Back in the day, inserts could be beaten with higher destiny characters and Blizzard Walkers. Asteroids could be beaten with a handful of alters. The Manipulator was stopped by B'omarr Monks starting with the Yavin 4 throne room. I have seen terrific ideas posted on the BBS for anti-operatives decks. The ideas are there, folks are talking and using their minds and coming up with solutions to a solvable problem. If the naysayers had their way Decipher would just ban Operatives outright and we never would have had this time to rack our brains coming up with ideas to solve the Operatives puzzle. Operative can't be beat? Sure they can. Here's some ideas: A Gift, The Planet That Its Farthest From/A Bright enter Tot The Universe, ISB Operations with 5D6-RA7, Tattooine Celebration. The seeds have been planted, now let's see it grow and mature.

Let's think of a young boy who gets picked on by a neighborhood bully. Sure, he could call his Dad (Decipher) to come down and stop the bully from harassing him. That would be the easy way out. But what has he learned? He certainly hasn't learned to think for himself or to stand tall. If the boy uses his brain and devises a scheme to get back at the nasty bully(Non-Violent of course!) then he has done something on his own. He has something to feel proud about. He has proven he has the courage, charisma, stamina and intelligence to fight back when the going gets rough. My message to you:

STAND UP AND BE A MAN!
