A REFERENCE GUIDE TO BUSINESS AND LEGAL RESOURCES ON THE WWW

This site results from a course, LIS 5735, offered by the School of Library and Information Science last Spring at the University of South Florida. It is an excellent reference course on Business and Legal Sources and Services. Although much of the content of the course is based on printed sources, online research was heavily encouraged. Some of the sites below were provided by the instructors, and many others are the results of my use of search engines seeking sites related to the topic under consideration. I would like to dedicate this site to my instructors of LIS 5735.

Journals

• American City Business Journals
  Links are provided to 40 business journals and each journal's homepage. The top news stories of each week are posted. Archives date back to June, 1996.

General Sites

• MSU-CIBER
  This site contains international business resources organized as an index arranged under 16 different categories. A broad array of business information is provided about a great many countries.

• Direct Search
  This page is a growing compilation of DIRECT LINKS to the search interfaces of resources that are not easily searchable from the usual general tools. There are approximately 1000 direct links on widely diverse business related topics.

• CorporateInformation
  This site provides a list of other sites that offer information about companies, and is organized by country. In addition to information about companies, there are links to market research reports, accounting policies, laws, court decisions, etc.

• WWW Business-Related Resources list
  a list of business resources related mainly to management,employment and advertising topics.

• All Business Network

  Provides informative articles from business experts; interviews with noted business professionals; general business news; and links to other business resource sites.

• Company Lookup

  This is a searchable database over 100,000 companies, public and private that includes the following information: company profile,press releases, stock prices, SEC filings, and links to company homepages.

• Yellow Pages.

  A site patterned after the familiar "yellow pages" that provides compilation of links to all types of basis business information such as telefone numbers, maps, directories, and the ability to search the real yellow pages in a number of cities listed alphabetically.

• TampaGuide -Tampa Bay, Florida

  An directory of links of business information and also to some general information about Tampa Bay including Tampa and surrounding cities.

  
  

  Finances and Investments

• Dow Jones Business Directory

  A guide to high-quality business web sites, that also includes a weekly news report, special reviews of some industry sites and links to special business topics.

• Quicken.com

  A web site devoted to managing money, with information from the world financial markets.

• Briefing.com

  Provides live stock market commentary on the Internet that includes all types of business information related to stock trading from a technical and analytical standpoint.

• "America's Local Business Address"

  Business information and other useful links, both national and regional in scope.

• Invest-o-rama!

  Gives a directory of investing sites on the Web with more than 9,000 links in over 100 categories, briefly described. There are also featured articles about investing, links to real state, day trading, commodity futures, a newsletter and ticker quotes.

  • All Law
    Calls itself "Your Internet Legal Gateway". It offers links under 15 headings to every aspect of the legal profession, plus 8 news links to legal issues in leading publications such CNN and New York Times.

  • The Law Engine!
    Offers searches for case law at all levels of government law; new sources; other references sources, law libraries, and tax law, legal services and employment, Legislative Action, law firms and legal associations.

  • Legal
    A guide to general information about issues that gives links under headings such as Legal Research, Verdicts, Federal Law, Lawyer Recruitment, Legal organizations and many miscellaneous issues.

    International Law

  • ASIL Guide to Electronic Resources for International Law

    Focuses on selected topics that are found on the web. Basically analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of these electronic resources.

  • FindLaw: Foreign and International Resources

    FindLaw's comprehensive page for links to international country,legal, trade, and news information.

  • Guide to Foreign and International Legal Databases- New York University School of Law

    A guide to international law, treaties, organizations, trade, and many other aspects of international legal materials.

  • Hieros Gamos "Doing Business Guides"

    These guides inclufe "World Reports" and "Country Guides", with additional material on government and law of the world.

  • FindLaw: Legal Subject Index

    Lists and provides links to laws and government documents in particular subject areas and lists government agencies charged with administering those laws.

  • American Law Sources On-Line (ALSO)

    A comprehensive general guide to U.S. and Federal Government Law that has links to court decisions at all levels, and also to pending legislation, court rules and regulations.

  • Model Acts and Interstate Compacts

    Laws passed or promoted that are suitable for adoption or have been adopted by a substantial number of states.

    
    

    Florida State Law

  • JOSHUA-Judicial Online Superhighway User Access Systems

    Provides information on Florida Court Structure. Includes photographs and biographies on the Florida Supreme Court Justices, links to other legal references sources, and links to FL Supreme Court cases and District Court cases.

  • Florida State Government Information Locator

    Gives general and legal information links to various aspects of state government.

  • Florida Supreme Actions

    Florida Supreme Court rules and opinions since September,1995. Opinions are posted by date, author's name and case name.
