About the Dekari

Dekari are closely related to unicorns and other mythical equines. They are about as large as a unicorn or small horse, and have long legs and muscular necks. 'Dekari' , roughly translated, means 'swift hooves'. The name fits them because they are so fast. The length of their legs and their cloven hooves have some attribute to this fact.

Habitat : Dekari are like horses in most respects, and they need a lot of room to run. Meadows, glades or sparse forests are where they can usually be found; although some are comfortable with mountains, they prefer large, wide open areas.

Diet : Being equines, the main part of a Dekari's diet is grasses, but they have been known to eat various leaves, berries and shoots in times of festivals. Complete herbivores.

Language : At the present they know only two languages, their native tongue of Irati and English. After listening for a period of time, most Dekari can pick up other languages quite easily.

Social Habits : Dekari form rishkas, or herds. Usually led by stallions, they are made up of two Dekari at the least, primarily more. Dekari are very social creatures, and festivals and ceremonies are not omitted in their lifestyle. Close friends are often called brothers or sisters of the heart, as they are so important to the equines. Friendship and love are considered special bonds and are nurtured carefully between two Dekari.

Quests: Before reaching adulthood, a Dekari foal leaves its parent or bonded and journeys to Rhydel Canyon. There it seeks self-awareness and guidance. Upon returning home, it is a mature mare or stallion ready to accept the responsibilties of its life.
