You
step into the dim forest that is almost devoid of light, although the sun
is still high in the sky. Tiny streams of golden sunlight filter down through
the leaves, highlighting the dust in their paths and making the air seem
aglow with strange fires.
A faint
rustling reaches your ears, and you turn your head, trying to locate the
source of the sound. A flash of yellow to your left catches your eye, and
you jerk your head around to see a little red and yellow creature that
looks remarkably like a squirrel.
It chitters at
you haughtily, then scampers across the forest floor and up a nearby tree,
where it continues to seemingly scold you until you step away and move
on. You come across several strange prints in the loam-covered floor, and
begin to trace their winding path in between the trees. A flash of blue
catches your eye, and you look up to see a strangely beautiful blue equine
looking at you with inquisitive eyes.
*Wyven.* You hear
a low-pitched voice, realizing that it is coming from the creature in front
of you.
"Hello." You
answer, not really sure whether it has greeted you or not.
The creature
looks at you, then bows low.
*Trezei, esthil.
Trezei ty mid Amaka Chaa.*
You hear the
rather formal emphasis on the last two words and begin wondering, still
not comphrehending the strange language. Instead of saying anything more,
you smile. The creature's eyes brighten, and it lets out a trill-like call.
You hear a soft crunching in the leaves, and start as three other similar
creatures appear.
*Wyven, esthil.
M em Chaa'Reean, e Miwenday.*
You think for
a moment, trying to decipher some word or title from the sentence. Miwenday.
"Is that what
you are?" you ask, rather confused. (Who wouldn't be?)
One approaches
you and slowly bows.
*Trezei, esthil.
M em Amani'Ky. Taro ty mea mye.*
You look puzzled
for half a second, then you smile as another Miwenday peeks out of the
bushes near your feet.
The brown and
yellow creature looks much like the others, a strange cross between an
equine and a dog, but this one's muzzle is more pronounced. You grin and
quietly step away, either walking straight ahead
or following a trail to your right, with four pairs of eyes scrutinizing
your every move.
