A Keen Poem

Stalin, the "Bloody Butcher"

What is it we're told about Stalin?

One, he shed Soviet blood by the gallon.

Two, Joe hated Jews, butchered his friends,

Put half of his country in pens.

Murdered best generals by the score...

(Guess that's why Joe lost the war)

Who spoon-fed us these lies about Joe?

Those who wanted Socialism to go:

Wall Street,Corporations and career anti-Commies,

Still trying to impress their Mommies...

The homeless got homes,

crippled a crutch,

Workers a job, free health care and such.

So Joe, Socialist symbol, was

dabbed with a smear

To deter us from seeking

such things here.

Useless Facts

DID KARL MARX EVER SAY, "I AM NOT A MARXIST"?
He sure did - not so much because people were getting his ideas wrong as because they were oversimplying his theories...then adding extra stuff of their own. Marx said society is shaped by economics so it matters who controls the economy. He also said every strong social force creates its own counterforce.

WHICH FAMOUS RUSSIANS...WEREN'T?
Karl Marx was a German who lived for years in England. But Josef Stalin wasn't Russian, either - he was from what today is known as Georgia...an independent nation that used to be a Soviet republic. Stalin, by the way, means "man of steel." Stalin's real name was Dzhugashvili.

WHAT WAS THE "PAS D'ACIER"?
You know the ballet term "pas de deux"...which means "dance for two." Prokofiev wrote a ballet called "Pas d'Acier" during his years in Paris. It means "The Steel Trot." Music writers think this meant tough, hard music. But maybe it was a play on words and really meant "Stalinist Dance."

WHAT IS STEEL MADE OF?
Steel is made from iron and coke. Coke is a form of coal. That's why famous steel towns like Birmingham, England...its namesake in Alabama... and Pittsburgh are located close to coal mines.
