Hello!
My name is Laurie Schmidt.
My mother, Juanita Mills grew up in Dinsmore Florida also. She was born in 1936. Her mailing address was Rt. 1, Box 174, Dinsmore Florida. Her mother's name was Ida Jackson. What years did you grow up in Dinsmore? I believe my mother attended Dinsmore Elementary school.

Thanks,
Laurie Schmidt

Hi R.L.
My mother died of cancer in 1970. I was only 7 at the time. You know how odd the sixties and seventies were. When she died, I was sent to live with my father whom I hadn't seen in years. My father was in the Navy, and we moved frequently. So, here I am now as an adult. I sometimes think of my Mom and wonder what she was like and if there are any members of her family anywhere....This summer I found the Social Security Death Index and typed in her name. They mailed me back her original application for Social Security. The application had her address of Rt. 1 Box 174 Dinsmore, Florida. Her mother's mother was named Ida Mae Jackson, and her brother's name is Harold Mills. I guess Harold is about 4 years older than you are. Her stepfather's name was Zebaul Gother Jackson (What an unusual name!) I think he went by the nickname Jack. So anyway, sometimes on my lunch hour I surf the net and wish it could magically provide me with a little history or information about my Mom. I live in rural Iowa. I was born in Jacksonville at the Naval Air Station. I really enjoyed your web site and thought that anyone who would play the theme to Andy Griffith couldn't be too bad! That is my husband's and my favorite show! Was Dinsmore Elementary School a country school when you attended? Did you eat lunch outside under the trees? Did you bring a lunch and purchase milk at a local convenience store? Somewhere in the back of my mind, I remember something about that. I've never been to Dinsmore. Thanks so much for taking the time to write and for creating your neat web site!

Thanks, Laurie

Good Morning R L!
Thanks so much for replying! That is a great idea you have about the picture. I’ll have to bring one in from home and then send it to you as an attachment. I loved hearing about your school lunch experiences! Is there a river near Dinsmore? When my mother was growing up, she lived near the river. They didn’t even have indoor plumbing. She frequently swam in a river that had crocodiles in it! The river water was so full of sulpher that it turned their silverware black and they had to mainly drink tea to get rid of the awful taste! Those were some days I guess! Her mother rented out part of their house to boarders to make ends meet. One time she unknowingly rented out the house to escaped criminals! How big of a town was Dinsmore in the early 1940’s? I live in a town that has only about 600 people in it! I imagine that Orlando is just huge! It seems that so many flights are routed through Orlando. Plus, you have Disneyworld and other big attractions. I was in Orlando last year in January. It was wonderfully warm and so beautiful. I’m glad to know why you started your web page and to hear your delightful stories and memories. I think others would enjoy reading more about your childhood and reflections. Have you written a book? It would be so neat if you could publish bit and pieces of your story on your web page. It’s great! Have a good day! Thank you so much for taking the time to correspond.

Laurie :)
