| Aunt Hazel Stover lived in a three story house on Old Kings Road.
She had several apartments in the house, which she rented.
My earliest memories of her were when I was 4 years old and my family
rented an apartment on the 3rd floor of her home.
Later and for quite a few years, she was my babysitter. She
kept a few kids to supplements her income. Aunt Hazel taught us bible
stories. The knowledge she instilled in me has remained my whole
life.
She would also take us swimming in the local creeks. Aunt Hazel
was an excellent cook and I especially remember the pear cobbler that she
used to make. She had a grove of pear trees and would make all sorts
of deserts and preserves with them.
Aunt Hazel was a devout Methodist and was well respected and loved
in the community.
Aunt Hazel never married. It is rumored that she fell
in love as a young woman, got her heart broken and never got involved again.
Aunt Hazel's sister Lillian Aldridge lived across the street from
her. We used to go over every afternoon and watch "It's Howdy Doody
Time" on their Television.
If you have memories of Aunt Hazel - please email me and let me add
them to this page.
Oh, by the way, Aunt Hazel was not my real aunt but she seemed related
and preferred for us children to call her "Aunt."
