Back on dry land

We had a great time on our cruise. I still feel like I am moving though. I guess it is called land sickness. The ground keeps moving! The seas were rough, but I did fine on the cruise.

We are off to Dixie County for a few days to be with Mom and Dad as that is where they have settled in. If anyone wants there mailing address there, just drop me a line and I can get it for you.

It will be good to see all of the family and friends in that neck of the woods for a few days. Maybe we can get everyone together to play some music :)

Hurricane Ike

It has been a hectic few days. We drove down to New Port Richey and met up with as many friends and family members as we could yesterday. It was great to see everyone and I didn't want to leave as there were so many people we didn't get to see. We really just need to move back home!

We are off to chase Hurricane Ike in the morning, Cliff and I, Crystal and Ivo off on an adventure for a week! i will not have internet or cell phone connection. I am not sure how I will survive!

Back to Ocala

Dad is doing pretty good. He is settled in at Steve's house for now. Still no word from the VA on when he will start physical therapy. Hopefully they get the ball rolling soon or Mom and Dad will just head back to Cross City as the VA there said they have openings for him to be seen.

I leave today to meet Cliff in Florida for our pre-planned vacation. We are celebrating 20 years of marraige and taking a cruise.

Dad's Accident
Well I don't really have too much new information. I spent most of my day trying to work it out to get a flight to Asheville so the boys could get back to work without feeling like they are leaving mom alone. I wasn't able to get that worked out but Matthew will be there this weekend and Steve back there Sunday night. They say he will be in Asheville hospital at least thru Monday and that they won't really get an update from the doctors on what is next until then. His next move will probably be to a rehab center, just not sure where yet.
What they are working on right now is getting dad's medications worked out to where his pain is reduced without keeping him so sedated. He doesn't stay awake and will fall back to sleep midsentence at this time. What he says isn't making much sense either. Like he asked where Cliff went? Or who had surgery?? He asked mom to wake the little people up as it was time to go while I was on the phone with her. Then he said he needed to go check the bid on the Home Depot job and said he was ready to go.. stuff like that. She attributes it to the heavy medication.
Mom is there with him thru the night and one of the boys during the day to make sure he doesn't pull off his oxygen or pull at his staples, things like that. To help him try to eat a bit or get a drink. Mom says they are trying to keep him coughing and breathing deep to keep his lungs dry as if he takes off his O2 that he develops a temperature.
Also Mom said to thank everyone for calls and emails that she has received but not had a chance to reply to and for all the thoughts and prayers. She and Dad send their love..
If you have any questions or anything let me know and I will try and find out.

Dad's Accident
Dad's surgery today lasted longer then they expected. They were able to place two screws to help minimize pain and stabilize the fracture in his hip. Once he was out of surgery he was extremely tired but able to answer the questions asked him. (cognitive testing) Steve and Erica, Timmy and Matthew were there all day. Matthew brought mom back for her overnight shift and he went home to get some rest. When I talked to Matthew he sounded completely exhausted.
Matthew and Erica both mentioned that dad had another head scan this morning because he is seeing flashes of light and floaters in his eye. I am concerned about his retina and would like it if an eye specialist came in. They were waiting to hear from the neurologist who never did come by. But the nurse said that probably means the results of the scan were fine... Erica also said dad really wasn't feeling well at all and looked pretty rough. Matthew said he just thought he needed some sleep after a rough surgery.
I am hoping for more detailed news tomorrow as by the time I get off work they are all resting and I hate to call them late, so hopefully I can talk to them in the morning.

Dad's Accident

Thank you all for your continued prayers. Dad is doing well and was able to sit up and have a bite to eat today. He asked to watch a bit of the Packers game last night and enjoyed a visit from Stevie's kids today which lifted his spirits. He has had a hard time getting solid rest as he continually wakes up so he is tired. Mom says his color is better and his head is fine, just hurts. He is scheduled for surgery tomorrow before 1:30 pm to place screws or pins in his hip to stabilize the fracture to prevent it from fracturing further and to help stop the pain. I assume the pain is why he is having a hard time staying asleep.

By the way.. dad was in Asheville working so he is in  Mission Hospital there. If anyone need their contact information just drop me a line and let me know.

Dad's Accident
I am not sure what if any details everyone has so I will just tell you all that I know at this time. My dad Tim Skinner was on a 24 foot ladder that was leaning against the siding of a new house and he had a piece of cardboard in his hands (for what reason I do not know) and he slipped and as he fell down his leg caught in the rungs of the ladder that shattered his femur. Then he proceeded to fall headfirst onto the ground (it was clay surface).
My brother Stevie had been working in the back of the house and had come to get something from the truck and saw the whole thing. He ran to dad and began praying and wrapped his head to stop bleeding and called for an ambulance and called my brother Timmy. Dad remained unconscious until they got him to the ER. He underwent emergency surgery to repair femur and rods were placed. He tolerated the surgery well and was talking and joking a bit about.. yum iced tea and morphine.  Timmy, Stevie, Matthew and Caroline have been there with him. Mom should be arriving about now.
Timmy says dad will need surgery on hip as well that was broken once he is more stable. He also has a skull fracture (I have yet to find out what type: Linear, basilar or depressed) but it does not look like he will require surgery for that. His brain scans have been shown to be fine but there was some swelling of the brain. That is about it for what I know at this time. Timmy said he looks "pretty rough". I would appreciate prayers for Dad, mom and the boys as I know this is very hard on them, especially Steve witnessing the whole thing.

I am in the process of updating my genealogy on my website.
I am focusing on the Skinner "branch" right now,
but I have a lot of new info for many of the family branches.
Please take a look and forward this to anyone you think might be interested.
Feedback, questions and comments welcomed on the blog.
If you have stories or photo's you would like to share, send them to me and I can post them.
