Chapter 3

"Alexander thou has been in bed for too long,
thou needs to awake!" Denise said shaking him out
of his peaceful slumber.

"I am up mother geez!" He said as she
smacked him in the head.

"What art thou saying to thee? If it is new that thou
friends made tell thee what thy meant now Alexander!"
She said as he rubbed his head. Even back then she
loved smacking him senseless in the back of
the head…great.

"I made it up mother calm down!" He said
as she got off his bed with a smile.

"Good, thou needs to come eat
before thy breakfast is cold," she said.

"What is the time?" He asked.

"A little past 6," she said as his mouth dropped.

"IN THE MORNING!?!" He yelled.

"Yes Alexander, thy always awakes before dawn! But
this day thy did not, thy worried me," she said
shutting his door as he laughed at his misfortune.

"I'm in hell," he said brushing the covers off him and
putting on some of the dorky clothes he hated to wear.

He ran down the stairs and sat down at
the table to see a bowl with a hard-boiled egg in it.

"This is breakfast?" He asked one of the servants.

"Alexander it's your favorite!" She said puzzled
as to why he would question it.

"My bad…I mean…I forgot!" He said clearing it up.
He felt so weird having to correct himself all the
time. He picked up his fork and stabbed it in the
middle as the servant women stared at him.
"I lost my memory yesterday, what is your name?"

"Gwenevere Alexander," she said picking up
the left over plates from Denise and Gabriella.

"Do you live with us?" He asked stuffing the egg
in his mouth.

"Thy sleeps in thy own chamber sir," she said
taking A.J.'s plate.

"So you don't live with us?"

"Nay," she said walking away.

"Nay? What are they horses?" He asked aloud as he
got up from the table. He ran down the stairs and out
the door, bumping into the clothesline and falling
to the ground.

"Alexander watch where thou is going!" Denise
said with laughter. A.J. got up and walked over to her.

"Does Princess Isabel ever visit us?" A.J. asked.

"Only if thy has a gift or if thou is accused
of something Alexander," Denise said.

"I'm going to go find Dwaine," A.J. said walking off. He
had no idea where Howie would be, but he
had nothing else to do but look around.

"Good day Alexander," someone called to him as
A.J. just grinned. The sun shinned him eyes
again after forever, since his sunglasses were
always on his face.

"Alexander thou hasn't seen you in days!" Brian
yelled to him.

"Hi…Thomas?" A.J. asked hoping that was
his 'new' name.

"Yes Alexander, Dwaine and Nickolas told thee about
losing thy memory, thou understands," Brian
said patting A.J.'s back.

"I'm looking for Howi…Dwaine, have
you seen him today Thomas?" A.J. asked.

"Thou is at thy market today, selling
crops for his masters," Brian said.

"You're not a servant?"

"Thy would rather die Alexander!"
Brian said giving him a 'you-really-did-lose-it' look.

"So who's this Gillian?" A.J. asked as Brian blushed.

"Me lady Alexander, I 'got' her," he said nudging A.J.

"Cool."

"It is? Thy thought it was quite hot
today," Brian said as A.J. smacked his head with grief.

"Nevermind Thomas, nevermind," he said as
they walked down the dirt road.

"Where shall we go today? Thy heard
thou talked to Isabel!" Brian said happily.

"That I did, if I could only talk to her again, I'd know
exactly what I'd say to her," he said
as they started walking into the woods.

"Alexander," Brian said with a scratchy voice. "There
Isabel lies," Brian said as A.J. looked over to Jessie.

She was trying to get onto her horse…
or something really awkward.

"I'll see you later Thomas," A.J. said as Brian
nodded with a smile and ran off.

"Your heighness what's wrong?" A.J. asked as
he walked over to her.

"This horse is very stubborn!" She groaned. As she got one
foot off the ground the horse jumped back,
causing Jessie to fall on the muddy ground.

"Your heighness are you alright?" He asked helping
her up. She looked at him and smiled.

"Thy is Alexander, from yesterday?" She asked.

"Yes!" He said glad she recognized him.

"How is thy painting?" She asked as he nodded.

"It's good, it's real good," he said trying to
get off the subject. "What are you doing here
without guards?"

"I…I am running away if thou must know,"
she said sitting on a rock next to A.J.

"Why? You're a princess!" He said as she groaned.

"That is why," she said as he nodded.
"Thou looks as if thou
understands?" She asked as he shrugged.

"It doesn't really fit yours, but being a Backstreet…
I mean being someone important to
society does get annoying doesn't it?"

"'Tis true Alexander! Why is thou so kind?" She asked.

"I like you," he said as she blushed.

"Heighness?" They heard as Jessie freaked.

"Thou doesn't want to go back!" She whined.

"Come with me!" He said taking her
hand as they ran through the woods.

"Where are we going?" She asked.

"A friends!" He said as they reached the
barn A.J. was familiar with from last night.

He knocked on the door causing pain to surge in his
knuckles, solid oak door. He pounded on it
instead and got better results.

"Alexander what art thou doing…YOUR
HEIGHNESS!" Nick panicked, bowing down to her.

"Nickolas she needs to stay in your
chambers for a short while, is that okay?" A.J. asked.

"Thou could ask me if thou wanted my head and I would
gladly accept! Come in!" He said opening
the door wider for them.

They walked in and saw a small bed,
candles, books, and some sleeping chickens.

"They shant bother thee," Nick exclaimed
pointing to the chickens.

"Is this what it takes to leave thy home?" Jessie cried.

"Heighness…"

"Isabel," she interrupted.

"Isabel, you can stay at my house, but we should wait
until dark until then," A.J. said as Jessie sat
down on Nick's bed.

"Nickolas?" She asked as Nick walked over to her.

"Yes your heighness?"

"I thank thee," she said as Nick smiled.

"Thou is welcome any day heighness!" He said as he
opened the door. "Thou must leave to do work, but
shall be back as soon as thou can," he said
shutting the door. A.J. and Jessie sat in total silence.

"Isabel, do you really hate where you live?" A.J. asked.

"Thou can not imagine how I loathe thy kingdom,
thy father is making thee get married to the
prince of England!" She said as tears came from
her eyes.

"Oh don't cry!" He said. He's seen Jessie cry
too many times to see her ancestor to do it as well.

"Thou cannot understand what thou is going through!"
She said as he pulled Nick's handkerchief out of
one of his books and handed it to her.

"I want to understand Isabel," he said as she
looked up at him.

"What about thee Alexander? What does thou
want out of life?" She asked as he grinned.

"You," he said as she stopped crying.

"ME?" She asked. He nodded as she sat there
staring at the ground and biting her nails. A.J. loved
Jessie, even if where her ancestor, he loved her more.
If he were stuck here he would at least try and have her.

"What do you want out of life Isabel?" He asked
sitting next to her.

"To be happy," she said sniffing.
"Alexander?" She asked.

"Yes?" He asked.

"Do you believe in love at first sight?" She asked looking
into his eyes. He loved her hazel eyes; they always
glimmered, making his smile always widen.

"Depends on what I'm looking at," he said as she
laughed. "I mean if I see a horse I don't fall in love
with it, but maybe you," he said as she stopped
laughing. "Isabel I've watched you since
you were born, I love you," he said.

"You are so…mysterious, and thy words
are so glorious!" She said with a small laugh.

"I try for you," he said as she giggled.

"Heighness?" They heard from outside.

"Shh, don't say anything!" A.J. whispered as they
stopped moving. A.J. walked over to the door
and opened it a small crack as he watched
the horses ride off.

"They're gone," he said as she started moving
again. He looked at the cavalry and
remembered Jessie…

"Don't worry okay? My mom will love you,
I promise," A.J. said as Jessie nodded.
She kissed A.J. lightly and held him in her arms.

"I can't believe she's getting to me," she said as
he laughed a little.

"I can't believe it either." He brushed his hand across
her cheek and smiled. "Can you do this?"

"If I get you out of it I'll do it blindfolded and
held at gunpoint by Cavalry," she said as they
both laughed.

"Jessica? Alex?" Denise asked as Jessie started
panicking again.

"Yeah mom?" A.J. yelled.

"Come down stairs!" She said as A.J. looked at Jessie.

"Don't worry, this will work," he said as she nodded.
Jessie kissed him before following him downstairs.
As she walked down the stairs she said out loud to
herself…

"Cavalry, Cavalry, Cavalry!" A.J. laughed
as they came down the stairs…

"Alexander art thou alright?" Jessie asked as
A.J. shut the door.

"Just thinking," he said sadly. He missed Jessie
too much.

"About what?" She asked as he sat down next
to Jessie.

"Old memories that I miss," he said as she nodded.

"Thy misses childhood," she explained. "Thy could
live without fear of marriage or fear of ruling thy
country!"

"Well Isabel, I say we have an
adventure to get all this sadness out of our veins."

"What shall we do?" She asked as he took her hand.

"We will make a break for it," he said as
he opened the door.

"Break?" She asked.

"I mean we will run as fast as we
can for my house," he explained.

"Alexander if thy Cavalry sees thee helping
me escape they shall murder thee!" She said
as he shrugged.

"My loss…come on!" He said as they ran
as fast as they could down the road.

"Where does thee live?" Jessie asked as they ran.

"Just down here!" He exclaimed as they ran down the
hill. They ran as they reached A.J.'s 'castle,'
he stopped and opened the oak door, letting
Jessie in first.

"Alexander?" Gabriella asked as she saw Jessie.
"Your heighness what is thou doing in
thy house?" She asked bowing.

"She needs a place to hide for a while
Gabriella," A.J. explained.

"Is thou helping her? Alexander thou
could die!" She said as Jessie and A.J.
walked up the steps.

"I won't if you don't tell," he said as she nodded.

"Yes brother," she said as she looked at Jessie.

"Heighness why would thou need to hide?" She asked.

"'Tis running away," she said looking at A.J.

"Thou is!?!" Gabriella yelled.

"Shh! I don't want anyone knowing she's
here!" A.J. said taking Jessie's hand and
taking her to his bedroom.

"Thou is so tired," Jessie said yawning.

"Would you like to sleep?" He asked as she nodded.

"Thou would love that," she said as he smiled.

"I'll be here waiting for you to
wake up," he said as she smiled.

"Alright Alexander," she said looking up at him.
She kissed his lips gently and walked over to his bed.

A.J. watched her sleep, a smile on his face the entire
time. Having Jessie in this weird place made him
forget everything, even the stupid tights he wore.
He walked over to her and sat on the ground,
brushing her cheek and hair. He missed her so
much, he almost lost her once before, and losing
her again would kill him. He sighed and kissed
her lips gently, sitting back in the chair he
was sitting in before, falling in love with her all over again.
