Chapter 12
The rest of that night was a blur; I can't remember anything
but the simple
small facts that happened that night!
I remember waking up a small four-walled
room of white!
Brian and the others along with two police officers were standing
by my bedside.
My vision was shaky but Brian was the first that came into
view.
His eyes were bloodshot; he started crying and fell into Kevin's arms.
"W--where am I?" I remember asking as AJ started screaming through
his tears.
"You fucking bitch… you know what you did! YOU FUCKING
BITCH!"
AJ couldn't finish his words and Denise ran to comfort him.
"Brian,
please tell me… why am I strapped to this bed… what's
happened?" I remember
begging as Brian shook his head and placed his hand over mine.
"Carla…
Nick's dead… we found him dead lying beside you… Y-you had a knife!"
I
remember watching Brian's face filled with horror as he turned and exited the room.
"Kevin…." I remember saying but then my mind went back to the night
before and I saw Nick's bloody eyes as his blood spewed from his mouth and the
rest of his body!
I started crying uncontrollably; no one even tried to comfort
me.
All of them looked at me with hatred and sorrow.
"W-why…
am I strapped to this bed?"
"Because Miss Robinson… you started
fighting us with the knife
when we found Mr. Carter dead."
One of
the police officers said.
I read his nametag, his name was Turner.
"No
I didn't, you're lying… I haven't even…"
"SO you didn't kill Mr.
Nick Carter?" Turner said as
he scribbled onto a notepad.
"I
don't know anymore… Nick… he said the most horrible things
to me… he didn't care
and Becky… where's Becky?"
"Who's Becky?" The other officer
said, his name was Brooks.
"She's lying… Nick worshiped her… he loved
her more than
anyone!" AJ screamed through his tears.
"He cheated
on me AJ… he didn't care about me… tell him
Kevin… tell him how mean he was to
me… TELL HIM!" I screamed but
all Kevin did was shake his head as clear
whole tears ran down his face.
"Miss… we're going to bring you down
to the station… have you
questioned… are you ready to give a confession?"
"I want a lawyer!" I replied as Turner handcuffed me.
"You
have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be
used against
you, you have the right to an attorney…"
"Tell Brian I'm sorry and
I love him, Kevin… please!" I said as Brooks
placed me into the police cars.
Reporters flashed cameras in my face as I buried my head in my hands.
"Why…
how… how could this have happened?" I said as tears ran down my
face.
When
we arrived at the police station, Turner and Brooks took me to a
room of black
with a huge mirror and a table with four or five chairs around it.
"Have
a seat, Miss Robinson," Turner said and left the room.
"Please,
I love you… we can make it better… I love you Carla,
only you!" I heard
Nick's words echo in my ears as my heart broke into a
million pieces.
'I've
lost everything' I thought to myself when two young men in black
suits walked
into the room of black.
The room was barely lit and I had troublemaking out
their faces.
"Hi Miss Robinson, my name is Detective Harley and this
is Detective
Mitchell… we want to ask you a few questions."
I watched
as Harley placed a small black tape recorder in between him
and me and he began
with simple questions like how old I was or how Nick and me met.
I answered
all of the questions truthfully, every word that I said
brought memories rushing
through my brain and down my spine.
"Can you tell me where you were
between the times seven PM and one AM?"
"I was on a plane back
to Canada from Kentucky… then I went to the Hilton hotel."
"Did
you see Nick any?"
"Yes!"
"Ok… Miss Robinson…
did you kill Nick Carter?"
I sat therefor a while and replayed what
had happened in my mind, how Nick
soft baby skin was torn into shreds, how his
chest was as hard as a brick and
how the switchblade had gotten stuck in his
lungs.
"Miss Robinson, did you kill Nick Carter?"
"I
loved Nick… I loved him more than anything!"
"That's not what I
asked Carla… is it ok if I call you Carla… Carla, did you
kill Nick Carter?"
I sat there for several minutes in silence and then I finally spoke
"Yes…
I killed him."
Harley and Mitchell glanced at each other and then back
at me.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!" I answered truthfully.
I looked down at my hands to see the sweat. I looked at my long
lifeline
and realized that the line was growing shorter by the minute.
I never looked
at Nick's lifeline but I knew that it
could have been no longer than an inch.
