Chapter 8

"BEEP BEEP!" The alarm clock screamed.
I rolled around and banged the snooze button as hard
as I could, sending an enormous amount of pain to
surge through my hand. I held my arm as
I sat up, 7:15 in the morning, and a Monday.

God I hate Mondays.

When I got onto the bus, I sat in the front seat,
hoping not to see Nick as I sat down.

I don't know why, but avoiding him was better than
talking to him at this point. The bus ride there I was
hoping to avoid Nick at all costs, not going to my
locker unless he wasn't there, sitting on opposite sides
of the room in the classes we had together, I had
everything planned out. I didn't think anything
would go wrong…like it did.

"I'll see you tomorrow class, and remember your
project is due Friday!" Ms. Loam
said as we raced out of class.

I got a quick glance at Nick; he
looked so good today, his hair, his clothes, his body...

"Hey Jess! Come on we're going to be late for Chorus!"
Ashley yelled as I snapped back into reality.

"Sorry!" I said laughing as we ran down the hall.
Unfortunately, doing that, I ran right into Eddie.

"Hey Jess! I haven't seen you all day," Eddie said as I
nodded.

"Busy day," I said as Ashley grabbed me.

We continued running down the hall and got into the
chorus room right before the bell.

"Okay you guys, we're going to start off with this
piece,"
Mrs. Graham said holding up the music.

I unzipped my bookbag and took it out,
holding it in between Ash and me.

As soon as we got settled, Nick comes in!
I looked at Ash and she looked at me.

"Hi," he said to everyone, his eyes met with mine and my
heart started beating fast.

"You guys, I asked Nick to join Chorus since
that incredible performance at the talent show.
I take it you want to?" She asked.

"Yeah sure Mrs. Graham," he said still looking at me.

"Well then, um, how about taking the seat behind
Greg and Joseph in the last row," she said pointing to
them.

"Okay." She handed him the music and he went to the
back, all the eyes on him.

"Come on class, get settled. We have two solos in
this piece, and we're going to determine which lucky
guy and girl get the part," she said as
everyone moaned.

They hated solos, me on the other hand, I enjoyed them.
It made me feel special.

"Let's start with Haley," she said as Haley stood up.
I turned facing Ashley so I could see Nick out of the
corner of my eye, he was looking at me too!
I smiled as Ashley gave me a 'what the hell are you
doing?' look.

"I was looking at Nick," I whispered, she nodded and
smiled lightly.

"Jessica, why don't you go next?" She asked as Haley
sat down.

"Um…sure Mrs. Graham," I said standing up.

I walked down to the front of the class nervously and
stood next to the piano. I looked up at Nick,
he was smiling. I smiled back as Mrs. Graham started
playing.

I guess Nick gave me confidence I could do it,
because on the afternoon announcements during lunch
they said the solos, one was me and the other…Nick!
He was going to sing with me, ugh!

"Won't that be fun?" Ashley said taking a sip of her
milk.

"Oh shutup Kyle lover!" I said laughing.

Her and Kyle were going steady now.
I had to admit, he was a cutie, but not as cute as…

"Hey Jessie," Eddie said sitting down next to me.
Ashley scooted over a little, she couldn't stand him.

"Hey Eddie," I said grinning.

"Well I wanted to ask you…you want to go to the prom
with me?" He asked me and I didn't know what to do!

He likes me, Nick doesn't. But Nick is the one
I want to be with, but Eddie wants to be with me…

"Yeah okay," I said nodding. He smiled and nodded.

"Okay, well I'll call you later okay?" He said getting up.
I nodded as he kissed me lightly.

When Eddie was a far enough distance,
Ashley started up her dad stuff again.

"Jess…you don't like him!" She said scooting back over.

"Yes I do! Could you tell?" I asked curiously.

"I don't think he could but I did," she said taking a
bite of her sandwich.

"Well at least Eddie likes me, Nick doesn't even…"

"Hey Jess," Nick said walking over to me.
He squatted down so I could see his adorable face.

"Hey Nick," I said smiling bright.

"I just wanted to say congrats for getting the
solo," he said smiling. God I want him, right here.

"Thanks, you too," I said putting my hand on his
muscular chest.

"Thanks, hey Ash," he said looking in her direction.
She waved and went back to eating.
She knew if she said anything she would be in trouble.

"Well I have to go, but I'll see you later right?" He asked
getting up.

"Yeah I guess," I said nodding.

"Okay," he said walking away.

I have two guys in my life, one I'm going to the prom
with, and the other one I love.
