Chapter 4

"Alex? Why is the door locked?"
Denise yelled waking me up from my peaceful slumber.
I opened my eyes to see A.J.'s arms around
me and me on his chest.

"A.J.!" I whispered loudly. I kissed
him lightly as he moaned.

"ALEXANDER JAMES MCLEAN!"
Denise yelled as A.J. jumped.

"Yeah mom?" He asked.

"Why is your door locked?" She asked as
I panicked. What was he supposed to tell her?

"I'm getting dressed!" He said saving himself and me.

"Open the door Alex!" She said banging
on the door. Imagine her as my stepmom.

"I'm coming hold on!" He said grabbing some clothes
and throwing them on. He ran over to me
and whispered, "Hide under the covers!"

I pulled the covers over my head as
I heard him open the door.

"Hey mom," he said as I heard her walk in.

"Where's Jessica?" She asked as I grinned.

"She went to Nick's house," he said saving me
for the second time in 5 seconds.

"Okay, well, if she comes back tell her that Yale called
they wanted her to come see her new dorm and
register for her classes this weekend," she said
as I closed my eyes. I knew that would hurt A.J.

"Okay, I'll tell her. Why are you
home so early?" He asked.

"I just came to get my cell phone," she said as
I heard her walk out.

"I'll see you this afternoon okay?" She yelled as the
garage door shut.

I took the covers off my face and
sat up as A.J. walked over to me.

"You told me not to go so I'm not going," I said bluntly.

"I know, I just feel like I shouldn't
be telling you not to go," he said as I shrugged.

"I haven't paid for this semester so I'm fine,
really," I said getting up and walking out of his room.

"You mean it?" He asked as I walked into the
kitchen, he followed me to the fridge as I
pulled out the milk.

"Of course," I said taking off the top
and taking a sip. He took it and took a sip out of it.

"What do you want to do today?" He asked as I
put the milk back in the fridge.

"Whatever, just as long as it's with you," I said pulling
out a piece of bacon left in the fridge.

"Well, want to go to the beach?" He asked as
I nodded. I took a bite and fed him some
kissing him lightly.

"I'm going to live on the beach
someday," I said as he grinned.

"Oh really?"

"Yes really," I said taking another bite. "I'm going to
have a beach house with windows all around the house
and a back porch and a dog
named Pongo, you watch I will," I said as he nodded.

"Do you see a husband? Any children?" He asked
wrapping his arms around me as I fed
him the rest of the bacon.

"I've always wanted a boy and a girl, A.J. and
Jessie junior what do you think?" I asked with a grin.

"I like the sound of it," he said nodding.

"Of course A.J. junior won't have the
name Alexander James though," I said as he nodded.

"Oh really?"

"Yep, it will be something like…Alex Jacob
or something," she said as he made a face.

"No way! My son would be a dork!"
He said as I giggled.

"Who said it'd be your son?" I said as his
mouth dropped.

"OH REALLY!" He said chasing me to his room as
I covered myself up in the blankets. He got under
the covers and tickled me until I couldn't breathe.

"Stop it! I'm going to die!" I said as he stopped.

"Not my son, next thing you'll tell me it was
Kevin's kid or something!" He said as
I caught up with my breath.

"I won't joke anymore, I don't want to
die!" I said as he grinned.

"Yeah that's what I thought!" He said as we laughed.

"A.J. would you really marry me?" I asked kinda
jokingly.

"We're talking about the distant future right?" He
asked as I nodded. "Yeah, I would in a
heartbeat, when I knew the timing was right," he
said as I smiled.

"Good cause I want you too!" I said happily.

"Jess, distant future," he said as I nodded.

"I know! But just knowing that you would
makes me so happy! I love you!" I said kissing
him a thousand times.

"Jessie," he asked in between kisses. "Baby…we…
need…to…stop…o…kay?" He asked as I slipped my
tongue into his mouth making it hard for him to stop,
he loved it whenever we did that. He moaned as I
pushed my hands up his shirt feeling his chest.
I lifted up his shirt and started kissing his chest.

"Oh God, don't do that," he said as
I kissed it, sucking playfully.

"I think my favorite part of you is your
chest," I said stroking it as I kissed him.

"I don't want to stop this," he said as I
kissed down his neck.

"Good," I said kissing him more.

"But I have to," he said as I stopped. Our breathing
became heavy, and it was dark with the covers over us.

"You can after a while or you have
to now?" I asked as he looked at me.

"Oh what the hell, why not after!" He said kissing me
and rolling on top of me as I giggled. We loved
kissing each other, and that day that's all we
did…unfortunately.

"Hey Boner!" Nick said when we got to his house.

"Yo D, can I talk to you?" A.J. asked letting go of my
hand. I walked over to Nick and grabbed the
basketball from his hand.

"I want to shoot!" I asked as he chased me with
the ball. He dragged me to the ground and grabbed it.

"No! This isn't a girl's game!" He said helping
me up and sticking his tongue out at me.

"It isn't?" Belle asked grabbing
Nick's ball from behind and throwing it to me as I shot.

"I scored! WOO HOO!" I yelled throwing
Belle the ball as we laughed.

"Keep away from the guys!" I yelled as Belle
threw it to me. As soon as I said that Brian got in
as well.

"Keep away huh? Nick I got Belle you get
Jessie!" Brian said chasing Belle as Nick chased me.

"My ball now Carter!" I said holding onto it for dear
life. "Belle, quick over there!" I threw the ball as it
flew to her; she was pretty good at keep away!

As soon as she threw it back to me I felt someone
grab me, Nick tackled me to the ground as we
both laughed, I threw it to Belle as Nick held onto me.

"Might as well give it up Belle you've
lost Jessie!" Nick said tickling me.

"Never Belle, Never!" I said in between laughing.

I pinched Nick's arm as he flew in pain. I ran as Belle
threw me the ball, getting tackled by Brian.
I ran over to the basketball goal and threw it in.

"Yes! Ha ha!" I said sticking my tongue out at Nick.

"Fine Jessica! One on one, right now!" He
said getting up and rubbing his arm.

"Not one on one! How about 3 on 3 or something?"
I asked. I knew I would get my butt kicked if I
played by myself.

"Fine! A.J., Belle, you're on Jessie's team.
Brian, D, you're with me!" He said as I rolled my eyes.

"Nick, this is so stupid! But just to prove you
wrong, we'll kick your scrawny white ass!" I said
as everyone laughed.

"You're on Olsen! Let's go!" He said throwing the
ball at me slamming it into my chest.
I groaned and looked at my team. My baby and my friend.

"Um, I sort of got hurt when he threw
that, can one of you guys start off?" I asked as
they laughed.

"I got it," Belle said grabbing the ball. "Okay
Nick, fouls or no?" She asked as I held my
chest in pain.

"You okay?" A.J. whispered to me.

"Yeah, fine," I whispered.

"No fouls, this is a game to show girls…"

"And a guy!" A.J. said defensively.

"And a guy," Nick said rolling his eyes. "How they
SUCK at basketball!" He said as Belle
sighed and looked over at Kevin the ref.

"Tell me when," she said as Kevin whistled loudly.
Belle dribbled it, passing Brian and throwing it to
A.J., who jumped and dunked it in from the
foul line. I had this tiny feeling we would win…

"This is it boy and girls, the last shot, or shots to end
the game! Jessie's team only needs one more shot to
win, Nick's team, one shot, it all ends now,"
Kevin said as we all gave him a look.

"Shh!" Nick said. I had the ball, and I was so nervous!
I dribbled the ball as Nick blocked me, he pushed me
as I fell to the ground, the ball flew to Belle as she
dunked it in.

"We won! YEAH!" Belle yelled hugging A.J.
as I sat up.

"Nick you screwed up my knee!" I whined looking
at it. It had dirt and blood all over it.

"So sorry, didn't mean it!" He said sarcastically as
A.J. and the guys walked over to me.

"Nick you must of knocked her hard!" Kevin said
as A.J. sat down next to me.

"Do you think you sprained it?" He asked.
His voice was so soothing and comforting,
I felt so at ease.

"I can't feel my leg," I said as tears fell.

"Nick!" They all yelled as Nick groaned.

"Sorry Jessie! It's just a game!" He said
sitting down next to the goalpost.

"Tell me if this hurts," A.J. said applying
pressure on my knee.

"OW!" I yelled in pain. A.J. sighed
and looked at the guys.

"I think it might be broken," he said as he looked over at
me. "Come on, we gotta get you
to the doctor," he said picking me up.

"No I can't! I hate doctors!" I whined
as tears flowed out of my eyes.

"Let me see you walk then," he said as I
shook my head.

After a x-ray, an exam, and a few questions, they
came back and told me what was wrong.

"It's just a bruised real bad, bruised everything including
the bone. Just stay off of it for a few days and you'll
be good as new," the doctor said bandaging my knee.

"God I'm gonna kill Nick!" A.J. said as I grinned.

"You know he didn't mean it, don't worry about
it," I said as he nodded. The doctor came back
in shortly after and handed me some crutches.

"You'll need to walk on these if you walk at all.
But I strongly advise you not to, it won't heal
as fast," he said as I nodded.

"Thank you Dr. Thomas," I said as A.J. helped me
off the examining table. I started hobbling with my
crutches and sighed, I was gonna kill Nick.

A.J. turned off the car at his house, looking at
my distraught face.

"Do you still want to go out?" He asked as I
turned to him. His face was so sweet and
caring, understanding.

"Of course, if you can handle the peg
leg," I said as he grinned.

"Well peg leg, can I trust you to drive yourself
home?" He asked opening my car door and
carrying me.

"Yes I can…Alex," I said as he put me
down in the driver's seat of my new car.

"You keep that up and I'll change your name from
baby to peg leg," he said as I giggled.
He kissed me lightly and I smiled.

"When are you coming to pick me
up?" I asked turning on my car.

"Um…7?" He asked as I nodded.

"Where are we going?"

"A night out on the town! Dress up baby, I feel like
this is going to be great!" He said kissing me a few
more times before going inside.

I went home and took a bath, my knee hanging out
the side like the doctor told me. I hobbled over to
my closet and picked out A.J.'s favorite fancy dress
I owned. I still remember the first time I wore it…

"Hey Nick! What are you doing here?" I asked,
wondering why he was at my front door.

"A.J. wants to meet you tonight at that fancy place…
down the street? You know what I'm talking
about right?" He asked.

"It's okay, I know what it is, I can't pronounce it
either," I said patting his shoulder. I ran up the stairs
and slipped on my brand new dress.

It was white silk, spaghetti-straps, with a v-neck and
thigh length. It had a small slit on the side
and lace around the border of the dress.

"I'm ready!" I said running down the stairs to Nick.

"That's a great dress! I swear I should have
gotten you before A.J.!" He said as I giggled.

That night when I met him, his smile was so wide,
I couldn't help but laugh. He declared it his favorite
and tried to get me out of it for the rest of the night…

I put it on as I smiled, remembering that night clearly.
I crimped my hair and put back on my butterfly
necklace. I put on some makeup, perfume, and my
heels and got my crutches. Having crutches and heels
definitely took some practice, but after I while I
was mastered at it.

I went into the kitchen and wrote a note
on the dry erase board on the fridge:

Dad,
Gone out for the night, don't wait up.
Love, Jessie

I put the cap back on as I heard the doorbell.

"Coming!" I yelled, hobbling over to the front
door as fast as I could.

"Hey, my dress!" He said as I giggled.

"I miss you too!" I said as he wrapped his
arms around me, setting my crutches on the wall.

"I was thinking, maybe we could just stay home,
curl up and watch some movies?" He asked
holding onto me.

"Oh really? So I got ready for a night in
my house?" I asked as he shrugged.

"Well, I think you got ready perfectly if that makes
you feel any better," he said kissing my neck.
"Your wearing that strawberry lotion
aren't you?" He asked.

"Yep, what about movies?" I asked as he grinned.

"Got em' in my car!" He said picking me up. "Here,
don't move!" He said putting me down on the couch.
He ran out the door as I smiled, he was so cute!
"Here we go," he said shutting the door and sitting
next to me.

"What did you get?" I asked sitting up.

"Uh…Sleepless in Seattle, The Princess Bride,
and Independence Day, just in case ya want some
action," he said as I laughed.

"Surprise me," I said as he grinned. He popped in a
tape and turned off the lights. After a second we got
adjusted, his back on the couch and me lying in
front with my body facing up.

He put in Sleepless in Seattle, one of my favorite
movies ever.

"I've never seen this," he said as my mouth dropped.

"You haven't? This is one of my favorites!"

"Brian's too," he said as I smiled.

"Really? I didn't know Brian was a softy,"
I said as he nodded.

"Yep, a wuss," he said as I giggled.
He brushed my hair with his fingers and I smiled.

"This was a good idea," I said as he nodded.

"Plus you need to stop walking, you want it to
heal quicker don't you?"

"Yes dad," I said as he shook his head.

"Please, don't say that," he said as I giggled.

"You're so cute," I said as he smiled.

"I know," he said as I laughed. I kissed
him lightly, then he kissed my cheek.

We were halfway through the movie and A.J. and
I was making out through the whole movie.
Then I heard the horrifying noise of…my father!

"A.J.!" I said as he jumped up.

"Is that the garage?" He asked as I nodded.

He jumped over me and took out the movie popping
in Independence Day, turning back on the lights,
and sitting on the loveseat instead of the couch.

"Jessie? Dr. Thomas called me and told me what
happened are you okay?" My dad asked as he and
Denise entered the room.

"It hurts a little, but I'm fine," I said as I sat up.

"Alex where have you been I've been
trying to call you all day!" Denise said as I held
in my smile.

"Mom I have a life, I was out," he said as she
rolled her eyes.

"Well, Lou called and he asked me if I would tell
you about the photo shoot," she said as I looked at him.

"You're going to a photo shoot? Where?" I asked
pretending to not care.

"New York," he said as I nodded.

"Right, tomorrow, don't forget!" Denise said as her and
my dad went off upstairs. We sat there in
silence as my anger was building.

"Baby I…" He tried to explain.

"No, I don't want to here anything. Just tell me why you
thought it was okay not to tell me?" I asked
looking over to him as he took his glasses off. I sighed
and rubbed my temples as I moved my knee,
causing pain to surge all over.

"I forgot! I didn't even remember! I remember
now that my mom told me, it's only 2 days in New
York and then I'll be home. Maybe you can
come with me?"

"No, I can't go hobbling around New York, and maybe
this would be best right now if you left," I said,
nodding confidently.

"You think so huh?" He said as I knew he was getting
angry.

"Actually yes, I do," I said defending myself. We sat there
in looking at each other for a while before A.J. nodded.

"Fine," he said walking out the door and slamming it.
I sighed and grabbed the remote of the coffee table,
stopping the tape and hobbling over to my crutches.

Even if A.J. didn't think it was best that we were apart,
if he couldn't tell me things this important I had a
feeling we wouldn't last.
But when he got back…things changed.
