Chapter 9

The weekend flew by and soon it was Sunday evening. I didn't want to say
goodbye to Sara but I knew I had to. I was going to miss her so much and I
knew Nick was going to too.

I had caught the two of them more than once
making out after the whole "Bedroom Bandit" incident and Brian called me on
his cell and told me that they were making out in his car as he spoke to me.

I guess you could say they were our running joke for the weekend.

"Lezlee? Can I borrow this until I see you at Easter?" Sara asked me as she
dangled a mint green sweater in my face.

"Yeah, just don't shrink it like my last pair of jeans!" I told her. She
said she wouldn't and then the two of us headed up the stairs to pack her
suitcase.

We threw in clothes, magazines and shoes. With the amount of
clothes Sara had brought you'd have thought she was moving in!

"Sit on this will you so I can close it!" Sara said to me. I hopped on as
she zippered the grey suitcase shut. I picked it up after and carried it
down the stairs with Sara behind me.

"Sara! Sara! Will you play ninja turtles with me?" Davy asked as he came
running up to Sara and pulled in her pant leg. She bent down to his height
and gave him a hug.

"Sorry Davy, I can't. I have to go back to New York," she told him. He
nodded and then ran off to go play with his toys like any typical 6 year old
would do.

We put the suitcase at the front door and then walked into the
kitchen for our last meal together as a whole family.

"Hi daddy," Sara said as she went over and gave my dad a big hug.

"Hi honey, say...do you need any money for books or anything?" he asked
her.

"Oh daddy! I'm fine!"

"I know, I just want to take care of my first born." We laughed. My mom was
busy cutting up vegetables at the counter and throwing them into the Wok.

"Stir Fry ok?" my mom asked us. We nodded. My mom was a great cook, no
matter what she whipped up tasted good. Just then, the door bell rang.

"I'll get it!" yelled Angie as she ran to the front door, along with Lucas
and Hannah.

"Outta my way!" Lucas yelled.

"Move it!" Hannah whined.

"I'm older, I'll answer it," Angie said.

"I'm older than all of you, I'll get it!" I said as I pushed them all aside
and opened the door. It was Nick.

"Awww. It's only you," said Lucas as he walked away.

"Why wasn't it someone important?" Hannah asked Angie as they walked back
into the kitchen.

"Love you too!" called Nick to them.

"Don't mind them," I said and then turned towards the kitchen, "Sara, your
bedroom bandit buddy is here!" Sara came around the corner and walked past
me.

"Hi Nicky!" she said. The two looked at leach other and then Nick grabbed
Sara's hand. Soon, they were comfortably making out at my door.

I shoved
Sara out the door and onto the porch with Nick and slammed the door behind
them. A few minutes later I heard the doorbell again. I opened it and sure
enough, Nick and Sara were standing there.

"Are you two quite done?" I asked. Sara stuck her tongue out at me.

"Well, I better go, I just came to say good bye," said Nick. He gave Sara
one last kiss and then turned and left.

"Call me," he called just before he got to the end of the sidewalk. Sara
blew him a kiss and then I shut the door. Just in time for my mom to call us
for dinner.

After dinner we all said our good bye's. My dad packed Sara into our van
and drove her off to the Orlando airport.

The sun was shining brightly into my room. "What" I thought. It was too
early for the sun. I glanced at my clock. 10:37 am? Huh? I bolted out of
bed. I had over slept!

My parents must have thought I left early this
morning. I raced around the house trying to get my lunch made, eat and grab
a quick shower. I threw my hair into a twist and threw on my denim skirt and
my white tee. I grabbed my bag and headed out the door. Luckily the bus
arrived two minutes after I got to the bus stop. Hoped on and arrived at
school just in time for lunch.

"Hey where were you?" Jessie asked me as I opened my locker and threw in my
books.

"I accidentally overslept," I told her as I reached into my bag and pulled
out the letter I had written for AJ.

"Well I have to tell you something," but she didn't get to finish because
AJ and Ashley walked over to our lockers.

"So I'll see you after school?" Ashley asked AJ in a sugary voice.

"Yep," he replied. Then, I saw the most horrifying scene I think I've ever
seen. Ashley reached up and kissed AJ on the lips and he put his arms around
her. I gasped and could feel the tears welling up in my eyes.

"See you later," Ashley said as she walked off. AJ didn't even say a word
to me. He just grabbed his lunch and headed for the cafeteria. I stood there
confused and hurt. Jessie put her arms around me and gave me a hug.

"Why did you tell me?" I asked.

"I tried to but they came over right when I was going to tell you," she
replied. I covered my eyes with my hand and started to cry. The tears flowed
down my wrists and dropped onto the letter I was still clutching in my hand.

"Lezlee, it'll be okay," Jess said trying to comfort me. But it was no use.

I crumpled up the letter and threw it into the garbage. It was crumpled
now...just like my heart.
