Chapter 12

Purple Rain slowly came to an end as Gwen fought to keep her eyes open.

Kevin’s fever had climbed steadily for the past hour to 104.5. Gwen slowly ran her fingers through his hair, gently touching his face once in a while.

“Gwen?” Kevin murmured softly, his voice hoarse.

“Yeah? How are you feeling?” Gwen whispered looking down at him, resting her hand on his cheek.

“Not to great, but a little better, thanks for taking care of me.” Kevin said, putting his hand on top of hers.

Gwen smiled, bent down and softly kissed his forehead, and then his cheek.

Kevin slowly raised his hand to the back of her head and kissed her cheek softly.

“I think I should get you up to bed, you’re still burning up, maybe I should take you too the doctor.” Gwen said helping him up from the couch.

“I’m sure I’ll be just fine.” Kevin whispered making his way up the stairs with her.

“Ok…” Gwen said unsure.

Kevin got in bed and sighed trying to fall asleep. Gwen pulled up a chair beside him and gently stroked his cheek, humming softly.

Kevin smiled up at her and closed his eyes as his breathing slowed and deepened.

Gwen smiled back and softly kissed his forehead.

~ 8:00 A.M. ~

Kevin bolted upright in his bed as sweat poured down his forehead. He could barely remember his nightmare but he knew that it had scared the living crap out of him. Kevin was trying to recall it when he felt something stir beside him.

For the first time he looked over to see Gwen asleep sitting on a chair with her head on the edge his bed, her hand in his. He smiled down at her and cocked his head to one side.

“Wake up.” Kevin whispered a small grin on his face. Gwen slowly tilted her head upwards. Her eyes were red and she was freezing.

“Kevin, how are you feeling?” She murmured rubbing her eyes and feeling his forehead.

“Much better, but you’re not looking to good, come here.” He said, scooting over and pulling back the covers.

Gwen hesitated but soon climbed into the bed, pulling the covers over her freezing body.

Kevin wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close, rubbing her arms and shoulders softly, trying to bring warmth to them again.

“I’m fine, just a little tired is all.” Gwen mumbled taking a deep breath and getting back out of the bed quickly.

“Ok…” He replied softly giving her a weird look.

“Besides, you’d better pick out something nice to wear for tonight, Brian decided since we cut the little party short that we should all go out to this nice dinner place or something to celebrate my future career as a singer.” Gwen said walking out of the room and down the hall towards her own.
