"That kid runs off every second. You need to get his mom to buy him a leash or something."
"Yeah, I'll suggest that when she gets home. 'Yes, Mrs. Roberts, why don't we just buy little Charlie a collar and leash, no really, it's a great idea I think,' " I laughed mocking my boyfriend with the bright ideas. Brian laughed.
"Shut up, I think it's an ingenious idea. Sure will save you the trouble of running after him day and night, anyway. Speaking of their mom getting home, when is she getting home? I miss you," he said. I could almost see him grinning over the phone.
"I don't know. Soon, I'm praying. Which is why I need to go find-" I was interrupted with squeals of laughter. I looked down to see Charlie and Mindie wrapping themselves up in the telephone cord. I smiled, relieved to have recovered the missing twin. "Nevermind, search called off. He's been found," I said, gingerly unwrapping the kids from the wire.
"Another succesful search for the great Charlie Roberts. So got any plans tonight?" Brian asked me. I laughed.
"Well, I don't know. After my eventful day baby-sitting these wild things, I might just want to stay home and sleep." I said, enjoying every minute of toying with him.
"What??? You always spend all your time with those babies! I hardly ever see you anymore. You'd think you were dating them!" He whined.
"Well, they are pretty cute..." I teased.
"I'm cuter!" He argued.
"No..." I laughed. "You're just dead sexy." That compliment seemed to please him.
"Really? Awww. Say it again! How sexy am I?" he said, trying to prolong my compliments.
"Forget it! I'm sorry I said it if you're just gonna hold it over my head like this!" I laughed.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. You know you mean it. Listen, call me when you get home, kay?"
"Yes sir." I answered obediently. "Anything else, master?"
"Yeah, how bout ya cut out the smart ass act, huh?" He laughed. "Bye, babe."
"Bye." I said laughing before I hung up the phone, just as I heard the back door open. I turned to the twins with a genuine smile of happiness and relief on my face saying, "Mommy's home!"
"MOMMY!!!!" They squealed, running into their mother's open arms.
"Well, hello, my babies. Oh, I've missed you both so much!" Mrs. Roberts said engulfing the twins in a hug. I smiled at the reunion that I witnessed every day. "Thanks, Maggie, see you Monday," Mrs Roberts said, handing me my check for the week.
"No problem. See you then. Bye, babies!" I said kissing the twins on the top of their heads before I walked outside to my car in the cool spring air.
I took a deep breath and sighed, "Ahh, sweet liberation. Now I can go home and relax!" I climbed into my bright red Jeep Cherokee before speeding off towards me and Brian's home sweet home.
