Railroad crossing signs
These small plates were used from the late '60s until the '80s to identify railroad crossings with numbers. The holes on the sides were used to secure the plates to the pole with straps. Abbreviation info: AAR - Association of American railroads. SBD - Seaboard System RR. SCL - Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. These are the same railroad, which was first the SCL RR and then re-named the SBD railroad after several mergers. (Thanks to Karl Denhart for providing info on the use of these plates!)
