I had the sinking feeling that we weren't really going to this guy Kevin's house. I leaned forward to read what time it was. Fear clutched my insides when I realized that we had been driving almost an hour.
" Where exactly are we going?" I pleaded. Becoming nervous once again. I saw Nick jerk his head up, evidently he had dozed off.
"There's been a slight change in plans," Carl muttered.
"Are you sure you guys don't want to work out a business deal?" Christina asked desperatly.
I thought for a minute. "Yes, yes....we can go home...and work something out ok?"
"Ha! I wouldn't believe you for a second!" Carl raged.
OK, so maybe that wasn't too convincing, but I didn't know what else to say...
We were now driving on yet another dirt road.
Carl cranked the speakers up in the backseat in order to muffle his and Christina's conversation. I was desperate to know what they were saying. Trying not to be obvious, I concentrated on his voice.
"....drop you off......meet me there.......your car....." I could only make out bits and pieces of his words.
What's happening to us? Something told me that we should have been fearing these two all along. From the darkness of the rapidly speeding vehicle I felt a warm hand clutch mine, and I felt a little better.
Brian had to give up. As much as he hated to....he wasn't going to find anyone in the middle of the night in this fog. He needed to call the police. Even though he knew what they were going to say, he had to try. He could just hear them now "I'm sorry sir...but until forty-eight hours has gone by....we have to wait." He couldn't help but laugh bitterly when he thought of what he could tell them. "Uhhh....yeah....I had a fight with my friend and she left in a huff...well my friend Nick and I left to look for her...and well....now they're both gone." They were going to ask him how long they had been missing, and then laugh him out of the station. Nervously he chewed on a thumbnail as he made a turn and headed for the Orlando Police Station.

Oh brother I thought to myself as we sped along. He had a nice voice all right...nice for a female. He sang in what sounded like the alto range. I set my face in my hands and sighed. Carl had dropped off Christina at her house for some reason. Now that she was gone, I was relly nervous. Nick bounced his knee and hit me in the chin, causing me to bite my tongue.
"Watch it!" I said irritably.
"Sorry....man...." Nick whined.
"What's your problem?"
He bit his lip and then darted his eyes back and forth nervously "I gotta go!"
I knitted my brows together "well, I don't think we have much of a choice."
"What's that?" Nick asked leaning toward me in effort to hear me over Whitney Houston.
"Where are you going to go in a moving vehicle?" I asked.
Nick's lip curled up at the side and he looked at me like I had just suggested he swallow a goldfish.
He looked around "I dunno...." he picked up an old Snapple bottle from the floor "in here maybe?"
Now it was my turn to examine him as if there were rocks in his head "like you'd fit goldilocks!"
Nick examined the bottle and bounced his knee some more "yeah..." he decided "you're probably right...But man if I don't go to the bathroom soon I'm gonna explode--"
I looked at him shocked. When I realized what he had been really talking about I pelted him on the arm.
"Ouch! what the hell was that for?"
"I swear Nick, sometimes you amaze me...."
The vehicle was slowing down finally, and Carl turned down the music....still oblivious of the conversation Nick and I just had.
"
I heard the trunk open, and I could tell he was rummaging through some stuff. I spotted a set of headlights approaching us. And then a female figure stepped out. It was Christina.
"Ange...this is weird..." Nick's voice trembled slightly. It took all of five minutes for them to tie us up, blindfold and gag us. After that, the doors to the vehicle shut. I heard the other car as it sped away. I sighed with relief. They were going to leave us alone at last. Someone was bound to find us.
I sighed and tried to replace the scary thoughts of starving in this car with happier thoughts. I layed my head against the seat. What was that noise? That whirring? A sickening realization cloaked me. I suddenly realized that the car was still running!
