Part 5

Three hours later

“Molly! It worked. Our plan worked. I’ve got a date with Sam on Saturday. Molly are you here?” asked Brian slightly confused.

Molly had always been around and been there for him. He had come to depend on Molly as a confidante. It’s not like she had anyone to run and tell except maybe her angel friends. To him she was a true friend. She wasn’t his friend because he was Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys. She was his friend because she had to help him. It wasn’t like Molly to not be around though. She was usually so excited to hear anything he had to say.

“Brian, I’m a crack dealer,” said AJ quite annoyed with his friend.

“You’re a what?” asked Brian coming out of his daydream.

“Nothing, I was trying to get your attention. Were you on the phone?”

“No why?”

“Well because I heard you talking to someone.”

“Oh it must have been myself,” Brian covered.

“What’s with you lately? All the fellas have noticed. Are you all right, I mean physically?” asked AJ referring to Brian’s heart condition.

“Oh yeah, that’s just fine. I’m just fine, really.”

“OK, but you know that the fellas and I are here for you,” said AJ patting his friend on the back.

“Yeah, I know. Thanks,” said Brian realizing how much he had come to depend on Molly.

A week later

“Molly, come on. You’ve isolated yourself in there for a week. Please come out,” said Lance nicely.

He felt incredibly guilty for the way Molly was acting. Though it wasn’t his fault, Lance felt that he was responsible. After all he was her superior.

“Why Lance? There is nothing for me to do out there! I’m basically useless.”

Lance hated people feeling sorry for themselves. He knew Molly couldn’t or better yet, wouldn’t leave her room. This angered him even more.

“Fine, Molly. Stay there but you’re a good angel and you were right in showing yourself to Brian. Personally I think we need to show ourselves to the client. Gosh Molly fight for what you believe in. I believe in you and I’m going to go fight for you,” and with that Lance turned on his heel and left.

Few moments later

“Sir, Molly needs to be reinstated,” said Lance with as much courage as he could muster.

“And why is that, Lance?” a deep voice boomed.

“She’s deticated, hard working and she’s a sweetheart. Besides this is my fault. She’s my student.”

“You provide a good argument, Lance. Answer me one question-where were you when this was going on?”

“Sir, I was wallowing in self pity. I know its not like me, but ever since I saw the guys again I’ve been haunted.”

“Go on.”

“Well ya see I never really got to say good-bye. I guess I’ve regretted that. I tried to forget my life but now I realize that I need a proper good-bye to put that life behind me.”

“Did you ever wonder why you were here for so long Lance?” asked the voice now becoming sweet and calm.

“Well, kind of.”

“You had to realize that you can’t forget things that happen to you. Realizing that makes you a full human being able to move on.”

“What exactly does that mean?”

“That you can go on,” said the sugary voice as a set of stairs appeared.

“But, sir, what about Molly?”

“Molly also realized something. She is also ready to move on.”

“What did she learn?”

“Well that sometimes you need to give up what you want to make someone else happy.”

“You mean she had to give up Brian for him to be happy.”

“That is correct. Best wishes on your journey, Lance.”

“Sir if you don’t mind there is something I have to do first.”

Molly had her meeting with the big guy just hours after Lance. She was told much the same thing. It had been about a week and a half since she had last talked with Brian. It was now Saturday-the day of his big date. The day she had to say good-bye.

“Brian,” said Molly appearing in his room.

“Oh Molly! Where have you been?” he asked hugging her.

“Um well I was wrapping things up.”

“What do you mean?” he questioned tying his tie.

“Well I’m ....I’m moving on,” she said quietly.

“You’re what?” asked Brian facing her.

“Yeah I learned my lesson I guess you could say.”

“No, you can’t go Molly. I need you and your help with Sam.”

“Brian, give yourself a little credit. You did everything to get Sam. I just pushed your little shy butt along. You don’t need me.”

“But I do. I don’t think I can do this without you.”

“Brian, please don’t make this any harder than it already is,” she said wiping a tear off her cheek “You’ve got the guys.”

“But they aren’t you. Molly, you’re like my little helper, my co-conspirator. I need you.”

“Bri, I had my time here. I’m needed up there. You’ll be fine without me. You’ll lean on Sam now. That’s how it should be. I enjoyed our friendship and I’ll never forget you, Brian Littrell,” the tears flowing freely from her eyes.

“I’ll miss you too, Molly. I’ll never ever forget you.” Tears formed in his eyes.

The two hugged and Molly stepped back and waved good-bye to the greatest thing that ever happened in her life. She disappeared and Brian sat down on his bed, stunned.

“I sure am going to miss her,” he said softly.

At the same time across town

“Do you guys see what I see?” asked Chris rubbing his eyes.

“I think I see Lance but that can’t be,” said Justin.

“No, guys it’s me. I am dead but I came back to say good-bye properly,” stated Lance.

“This is a really sick joke! Who put you up to this? Lance was our-” exclaimed an angry Joey going to grab a hold of the man standing before him but stopping mid-sentence.

“Whoa! Did you see that? Joey went right through him,” commented JC.

“Lance? It’s really you?” asked Justin. “Well duh. Look you guys I don’t have all the time in the world but I’m here to say good-bye. You guys were the best friends I could have ever had. You changed my life and I’ll never forget all that we shared together. Being in *NSYNC and touring the world was the greatest thing ever and I’m so glad I got to do it with you guys. I just want you to know how much you’ll always mean to me. You were the greatest and I never want you to forget that.”

“Wait! Stay,” said Joey.

“I can’t, I have a bigger purpose. I wish I could but this is it. It has to be.”

“Well take care and don’t start any trouble up there, OK,” said JC.

“We’ll miss ya, buddy. Don’t forget to look over us,” stated Justin.

“I won’t, I promise. I gotta go,” replied Lance looking at the semi circle of his friends “Oh and congrats on the woman Joey, you deserve someone nice.”

Then with one last wave, Lance disappeared leaving his ex-bandmates for the final time.
