Mid afternoon at the studio
“OK, let’s take a lunch break and then we’ll lay down tracks for ‘Bad Boys Club.’ Sound good?” asked Max as everyone gave him the thumbs up.
“So where to?” asked Kevin.
“Oh God not this again,” said JC.
‘Hey Molly, I don’t know if you can hear me but can you sort of suggest to everyone pizza? Thanks,’ thought Brian.
Molly heard a faint noise and tuned into it. Brian’s voice filtered in and she could slightly hear a request for pizza. Molly smiled as she realized he was thinking it to her. She floated into the booths and brushed her hand over everyone’s head.
“Dude, I just got the biggest hunger for cheese pizza!” exclaimed Chris.
“Yeah, me too,” stated Kevin.
“I could handle a slice of pizza,” explained Joey.
“Everyone cool with that?” asked Kevin as everyone nodded.
‘Thanks, Molly! I owe you,” thought Brian smiling.
“What are you smiling about?” asked Nick
“None of your business,” said Brian playfully shoving his friend.
“Molly? Molly, are you here?” asked Brian looking around his room “What am I doing? She’s an angel, I can’t see her!”
“What? I’m right here. Gosh, Bri, sometimes I swear-”
“I need some advice,” she said stopping her mid sentence.
“About what?” she queried.
“Well ya see there is this girl....”
“Sam, right?” “Yeah, how did you-” he started as Molly gave him a knowing look “oh yeah, that’s right. Anyway Sam had been all I can think about for the past two days. Usually I’m the guy who has to get to know a girl but it’s like I already know everything about her! So the advice I’m looking for is a cool way to ask her out.”
“Oh I’ve got a great idea,” said Molly giddily.
Samantha sat on her couch flipping through the channels. She was just vegging. Her roommate and best friend Alexandra was out on a date with Joey. Sam was dressed in a pair of cutoff blue jeans and a pale pink tank top. She flipped the station to MTV and caught the Backstreet Boys newest video for ‘All I Have to Give.’ She watched as Nick finished his verse and Brian appeared on screen. She had always harbored a slight crush for Brian but she dare not tell Lexie. The crush had gotten larger since she met Bri and the rest of the guys. In fact she had fallen head over heels for him. ‘But why would he like someone like me?’ thought Sam.
Sam was short-about 5’2” at the most. She has shoulder length curly brown hair that fell in perfect ringlets around her heart shaped face. Her dark green eyes were like deep emeralds. She had no outstanding feature that defined her from other girls. Of course she loved to go out and have fun, but who didn’t? If you asked any of her friends you’d find that Sam wasn’t you’re typical girl.
Sam, according to Lexie, was the coolest person on the planet. Sam just had this knack for knowing what type of person anyone was. Sam was a great listener and was always available day or night to be there for her friends. She was extremely friendly and had dinner with her family every Sunday.
She wasn’t the type that you were blinded by her physical beauty but when her inner self shone through, she was more beautiful than any supermodel.
“That’s it for TRL. Once again the Backstreet Boys are on top with ‘All I Have to Give.’ OK question of the day, who would you rather be stuck in an elevator with-Justin or Nick? E-mail me, tell me what you think and we’ll have the answer on tomorrow’s TRL. I’ll see you here then, same total request time, same total request channel. Buh-Bye!” exclaimed Carson Daly bringing Sam out of her thoughts. She resumed flipping the channels.
A barely audible knock caught Sam’s attention. She listened for a second knock but it never came. She walked to the door and tried to peer through the peephole. She hated being short. She opened the door and found a single red rose with a pale blue note. he picked them up and read the note:
‘Missing you’
A secret friend
“What if she doesn’t show? What if she’s scared that I’m some serial rapist?” questioned Brian pacing back and forth.
“Brian, if you don’t stop I’m going to give you something to worry about!” exclaimed Molly getting quite annoyed.
“Well excuse me, this is only my life were dealing with,” said Brian sarcastically. He looked at Molly and saw the hurt expression settling on her face “I’m sorry, Mol. I’m just a little tense with this whole Sam thing. I didn’t mean to snap at you.”
“Don’t worry about it, I’m too sensitive. Looks like you won’t have to wait long to find out about this Sam thing.”
Brian stared, awestruck, at Sam as she skipped down the hill towards him-red rose in hand.
“Brian! Hey, what are you doing here?” asked Sam with a smirk.
“Oh not much. Just playing a little B-Ball,” he answered non-chalantly.
“Um all by yourself and with no ball?” she questioned giggling.
“Well ya know I like to stack the deck-make it so I always win,” he replied.
“Oh, I see. So has there been any guys around here? I’m supposed to meet my secret admirer,” she said a knowing look on her face.
“Guys? Oh members of my sex. Nope, no guys. Just little old me. So what exactly did this secret admirer say?” asked Brian shyly.
“Just that he wanted to meet me here at the basketball courts. Hey Bri, it wouldn’t be you now would it?”
“Me? Psht, why would you think that?”
“Well, you are on the basketball court, the letter used Backstreet song titles-you are a Backstreet Boy, and it was written on blue paper which is your favorite color.”
“It describes a lot of people,” stated Brian smiling.
“Well you wrote it cuz the blue ink it was written with is all over your mouth.”
“Are you kidding?” asked Brian wiping his mouth “I shouldn’t chew on my pens!”
“Gotcha! You fell hook, line, and sinker and by the way there isn’t any pen ink on your face.”
“OK, I’m your not-so-secret admirer. You disappointed?”
“No, I’m very pleasantly surprised,” replied Sam as a sharp clap of thunder sounded.
“You’re pleased?” Brian questioned taken aback a little.
“Yeah, I am but let’s get in the apartment before it starts to pour.”
Sam’s comment was a little late. As soon as she said that it started to pour. It was like a monsoon as they ran back to the apartment, laughing, giggling, and playing in the rain like two small children.
They sprinted into the apartment and quickly shut the door. Brian ran his hands through his rain drenched hair and shivered.
“I’m going to change,” stated Sam walking towards her room “You can look in Lexie’s room for some clothes.”
Brian walked out of Lexie’s room, minutes later, wearing black wind pants and a gray Kentucky sweatshirt he had bought her for their first Christmas as brother and sister. ‘Good thing Lexie likes baggy clothes’ thought Brian. He found Sam in the kitchen clutching a mug of steaming liquid. She had on royal blue sweatpants with a royal blue Nike sweatshirt. One thing Brian noticed was how violently she was shaking.
“Sam, you’re shaking like a leaf!” exclaimed Brian taking the cup from her hands “Let’s sit you on the couch and warm you up.”
Brian stood her in front the girls plush hunter green couch and grabbed the huge purple fleece blanket off the back. She stared at him as his warm, strong hands placed the blanket around her.
“There,” he said softly staring at Sam, his body inches from hers.
“Thanks,” she stated just as softly.
Brian bent down to Sam, moving to kiss her but a loud beep interrupted.
“OH!” exclaimed Sam jumping back and almost falling down in the process “That’s your hot apple cider. I’ll um....”
Brian chuckled slightly as Sam attempted to waddle into the kitchen. “Don’t worry, I can get it.”
Brian walked back into the living room. Sam had plopped onto the couch and she was still shivering.
“You’re still cold?”
“No, I’m fine really. OK a little,” she replied.
“Alright, that’s it. Time to kick this chill in the butt!” exclaimed Brian
“What are you doing?” Sam questioned.
Brian didn’t answer and went into Lexie’s room and came out with her queen sized down comforter. He crawled onto the couch and sat down behind Sam placing one leg on either side of her. He leaned her back so she rested against his chest, grabbed the remote, switched the channel to MTV and wrapped them both up together. Only then did Sam stop shivering.
