“No..” Amy said through clenched teeth knowing whatever Nick had to say wasn’t going to be good.
“What’s wrong?” Becky asked quickly, “I’m the one having the baby. I have a right to know.”
“I’m sure it’s no big deal,” Amy assured her as she pushed Nick into the hallway. “What’s wrong?”
“Bad news,” Nick stated, “All the roads are closed and the ambulance can’t exactly drive through in a hurricane...”
“So there’s no way to get her to the hospital!?” Amy hissed.
Nick nodded. “Basically...”
“Well what are we suppose to do???” she asked.
Nick shrugged. “How am I suppose to know? You’re the controlling one.”
Amy grabbed the phone from Nick. “You’re useless, you know that?” she told him as she started dialing, “Hello.. We have a woman in labor here and there’s no way of getting to a hospital. What do we do?.... About 30 minutes ago.... 9-4 minutes apart... Okay... Alright... Really?.. Okay.. Thank-you.. Bye.”
“What did they say?” Nick asked as Amy hung up the phone.
“They said not to worry. That most woman are in labor for hours before the baby comes. They said we’ll probably be able to get her to the hospital before the baby comes. Also, most woman learn that you don’t go into the hospital after your first contraction because you’re stuck there. They said to have her walk around every once awhile and that she doesn’t have to lie in bed until the pain gets really bad, which probably won’t happen. Also, we only need to really worry when the contractions are like one minute apart. If by some chance that happens call 911 right away and they’ll tell us what to do.”
“So we don’t have to worry about delivering a baby?” Nick asked.
Amy nodded. “The odds are on our side,” she replied smiling.
Nick let out a deep sigh. “Oh thank God!” he exclaimed as Amy went to tell Becky the good news.
Hours later everyone was in the living playing sharades with flashlights as their only light. There was too much going on for anyone to even dare go to sleep. Becky’s contractions were getting closer and more painful.
“Nick what the hell are you doing?” Amy asked frustrated.
“Oh come on.. You guys can guess it,” Nick insisted for the 15th time as he continued.
“Will you just tell us!” Amy demanded.
“Land Before Time!” Nick exclaimed.
Amy looked at Nick in disbelief. “You’ve got to be kidding me! How were we suppose to guess that?!” she exclaimed, “That is not ‘Land Before Time!’”
“It is too!” he said, then he started explaining his moves...
“This,” Amy replied imitating Nick’s motion of land, which consisted of jumping up and down, stomping the floor, “Is not land!”
Aaron and Angel started laughing, as they had been doing all night watching Amy and Nick continuously fight over the stupidest things.
Becky rolled her eyes. “Here we go again..” she murmured, then she turned to Aaron and Angel, “Are they always like this?”
The twins nodded. “Yup!”
“Do you guys think you could stop fighting for five minutes?” Becky asked interrupting the yelling, “It’s bad enough I’m going to be getting a person out of my body in a couple hours. Your fighting is not helping.”
“Sorry,” Nick and Amy apologized ashamed.
Becky carefully got up. “I’m going to the bathroom,” she stated and started waddling out of the room.
“You know, I don’t know why all those teeny-boppers swoon over you,” Amy said.
“Because they know something good when they see it,” Nick retorted.
Amy raised an eyebrow. “Evidently they haven’t looked hard enough.”
“At least I have admirers,” Nick shot back.
Amy was about to retort, but Becky came back in and interrupted, once again. “Uh, guys,” she said, “We have a problem...”
“Another one?!” Aaron exclaimed.
“My water broke,” Becky stated.
"So what? No big deal. Just clean it up and get a new one..." Nick replied, “No need to stress.”
"Not that water, you moron!" Amy exclaimed.
“Then what kind?" Nick asked confused.
“Think really hard..." Amy replied.
Nick looked from Becky to Amy confused. "Oh.. Oh!" he exclaimed finally understanding.
Amy shook her head. "You know I look at someone like you and I thank God I have intelligence!"
