Here is a brief description of each of the Chrono Trigger characters:
Chrono - This is the main character of the game. You will have him almost all of the game, or depending on what you do in the game. He uses lightening magic, but has weak magic power. He does have high attack power though.
Marle - Marle is actually princess Nadia of Guardia. Her father is King Guardia XXXIII. She runs away from home after an argument and runs into Chrono at the Millinial fair. She has weak attack power, but strong magic power. She uses ice and cure magic.
Lucca - Lucca is a real brainiac. She is an expert at machinery, and has made many inventions. She is Chrono's best friend. She like Marle has weak attack power, but high magic power. She uses fire magic which can be very useful at times.
Robo - Robo is found in 2300AD. Lucca repairs him when they find him. He helps the 3 get back home. Robo cannot use magic, but can use some spells that can inflict "shadow" damage. He has high attack power, but he is very slow.
Frog - Frog is from the Middle Ages. He joins early on to save Queen Leene. He uses water magic, and has strong attack power.
Ayla - Ayla is from the Prehistoric period. She is the strongest fighter, her special moves are physical attacks, however she cannot use "magic."
Magus - Magus is originally from the Ice Age, but he winds up in the Middle Ages. He is your enemy to start, but might help you out if you are nice later on. He can use all types of magic. Medium attack power.
