BOWIE CHAT DURING 10/8/1997 SHOW (from what I could decipher): "Ok we are going to try all kinds of things tonight, so ummm, be scared" ...Dead Man Walking acoustic "thank you very much" ...Quicksand starts out acoustic, last verse breaks in with full band, squealing Reeves guitar, crowd goes wild "thank you, this song uh, this song, I think I wrote it in 1969, we've done that a few times, I'm sure, it's called....oh interestingly enough...uh remember that other song that I was playing like when we came on? it went {DMW riff}, well you see, I was doing a recording session around 1967/68, and we had a session guitar player on the record called Jimmy Page, he was a new guy to the scene...true story...true story...and I said to him 'Jimmy have you got any old riffs that you are not using'...this is, I didn't make this up, this is true...he was about 16 years old at the time, he was the youngest session guitarist in London...this was long before all that other stuff happened....so he said 'yeah I've got this one, I don't use it much' {plays DMW riff} - and I said 'I'll take it for ya'..so I took it from him and uh, I've used it, oh I found it invaluable, I've used it alot, you know, when I need to have a riff in a song I'll think, 'oh I'll take that one from Jimmy that he gave me out the box'...so this is the first song that I wrote with that riff"...{slow DMW riff--- becomes The Supermen} no chat, Always Crashing In The Same Car starts right after The Supermen no chat, Waiting for the Man starts WFM ends - "that's right, well that's my dear ole Lou, Lou Reed. uh, This one's very leftfield, when I was a kid I used to do songs like this french student that I liked...coz he was Belgium, he was kind of, you know...do you want my (guitarpick?)"...(audience - "YEAH") {throws out pick} "feeding frenzy haha!... "his name is Jacques Brel, this is one I used to as you can tell, sort of REM isn't it? sort of REM thing, it's a musicstand version of this song, well I hope you like it, well let's see, it's called My Death".... {sings end of My Death} "for in front of that door..." ("ME!" audience member screams before he sings "there is...") My Death ends - "thank you, Mike Garson on keyboards"... "well that's the end of the dance session we have" Jean Genie opening with "drifting" slow, jazzy beat - Bowie sings - "I've been drifting, drifted like a simple(?) open sea, I've been drifting towards you, like a simple(?) open sea, won't somebody help me....won't somebody rescue me"....then "POOR LITTLE GREENIE"...etc. "thank you" "What I didn't do is ask any of you your names, so put the lights on Cyril(?) ...ha lighting man has a (?)..." "So after 3, all Christian names, 1, 2, 3 {audience yells their names}...I don't believe you did it, let's see if I got them all right - Christopher, Robin, Winnie, Margaret, where's Diana over there somewhere, where's Diana? are you serious? there is a Diana..uh do do do do dooo {Twilight Zone theme} so weird." "hello Gary, how you doing? that's our lighting guy over there..." "I'm serious about arranging transport, we're not going anywhere." "Reeves Gabrels on guitar, Mike Garson on keyboards, Zachary Alford on drums and somebody's bus... Gail Ann Dorsey on vocals and bass guitar. Good evening everyone, it's nice to be back...this is a new song it's called The Last Thing You Should Do..."
