Nick knew the moment he stepped inside, that kissing Sam was a bad idea. Everyone was standing right inside the door. All the guys and his entire family. They all started chanting as soon as he walked in.
"NICK AND SAM, SITTING IN A TREE.......K..I..S..S..I..N..G, FIRST COMES LOVE, THEN COMES MARRIAGE, THEN COMES SAM WITH A BABY CARRIAGE!!"
Nick just rolled his eyes and walked up to his room, the guys following behind while his family laughed.
"So Nick, how was the prom?"
"It was great Bri. I had a blast."
"Did you score?"
"AJ! Is that all you think about?"
AJ just shrugged his shoulders. Silence followed as everyone stared at Nick.
"What?!"
"Well.......did you?"
"No, I did not score."
"Aw man, and here we thought we'd hear some juicy stories since you didn't come home until today."
Slowly, one by one, they all began to file out of the room mumbling something about going swimming. When Brian was the only one left, he shurt the door and turned back to Nick.
"So Frack, what really happened? I can tell you're holding something back."
"Okay......you promise not to tell the guys? I don't want Sam mad at me cuz everyone knows."
"Sure thing. I won't tell a soul."
"Okay........well first of all, dinner sucked. Mom made reservations at some fancy restaurant. We ended up eating at McDonalds. Then we got to the dance and everything was going fine until this one song....."
"What song?"
"If I Ever Fall In Love, by Shai..."
"Good song...."
"Yea I know. That's what I thought at least.....and I thought Sam would like it too."
"She doesn't?"
"I dunno. When the song was over she was crying. When I asked her what was wrong, she just shook her head and ran to the bathroom. Well I waited outside for a few minutes until some girl came out and said Sam was the only one in there. So I went in and asked her what was wrong again. She said she didn't know. Brian.....she looked so sad and lonely........and fragile. I've never seen her like that. I just wanted to hold her and never let go.......so I kissed her."
"And.......did she kiss you back?"
"Not really.....but she didn't pull away either. So, we went back to the dance. When that was over we went to the hotel to change. Well.....when we got there, I dunno......I got this urge to kiss her again....so I did. When I pulled back she asked why and I told her I didn't know. Then she kissed me and one thing led to another....."
"You did score!"
"NO! When she went to undo my pants I told her to stop. Then she got embarrassed and rand into the bathroom again!"
"Well I will say one thing right now Nick.....I'm proud of you. Not many guys would have shown that restraint when there was a girl willing and very able in front of them."
"Yea I know......I didn't want it to be like that though.....not with Sam."
Brain just nodded, "So what happened?"
"Well, I had to resort to the dirtiest trick in the book to get her to open the door...."
"And was trick is that?"
"Full name. Samantha Marie Michaels. She hates it! But it works every time. She opened the door and I managed to get her back out of the bathroom. We talked for a few minutes and then we watched cartoons for a couple of hours and fell asleep."
"I'm not sure what to say Nick. No one ever said falling for your best friend was easy. Just sit back and take it one day at a time. Why don't you call her up and tell her to some over and come swimming with us. That's why we're all here. That and cuz we wanted to get the dirt on what happened."
Nick laughed and punched Brian in the arm. Watching Brian walk out, Nick picked up the phone.

Sam walked in her house and looked around. Amazing........not a parent in sight.
"MOM!!"
Waiting a few minutes, Sam went in search of her mother. She found her in the kitchen, baking with headphones on. Tapping her on the shoulder, she watched as Stephanie jumped about 10 feet in the air and turned around.
"SAM! Don't do that!! You nearly gave me a heart attack! I see your home now."
"Sorry mom....."
"So? How was prom?"
"It was great! Had a blast!"
"So what did you guys do afterwards?"
"Talked and watched cartoons."
"Oh really? All I have to say is that I hope you two were smart and used protection."
"MOM!! Nick and NI did NOT sleep together!"
Stephanie looked at her daughter closely before nodding.
"Okay.....I won't lie to you....I'm glad. Now, you better go call Sera. She's been calling every hour. She's about ready to have a nervous breakdown."
Laughing, Sam headed to her room and picked up the phone.
"Sera?"
"SAM!! Where have you been?"
"Um Sera.....I had prom last night.....remember?"
"DUH! I helped you get ready freak! You mean you're just getting home?"
"Yes."
"WHAT!! Where did you sleep?"
"In a hotel."
"With Nick!?"
"Yes Sera."
"OH MY GOD!!!"
"Relax Sera.....it's not what you're thinking. We didn't have sex or anything silly. We watched cartoons and fell asleep."
"And that's it?? Nothing happened??"
"Well......"
"I knew it!!"
"Why don't you come over and I'll tell you what happened."
"Okay, I can be there in like two minutes!"
"Relax Sera....oh damn, hold on, I got another call," Sam said then clicked over, "Hello?"
"Sam?"
"Yea....."
"It's Nick."
"I know that doofus. What do ya want?"
"Oh......I wanted to know if you wanted to come swimming with us?"
"Us? Who's us?"
"The guys and me."
"Oh.....I dunno......I just asked Sera to come over."
"Well, bring her along."
"Okay....I'll think about it.......if Sera wants to we'll be over in a bit."
"Okay, see ya later."
Sam clicked back over to Sera and giggled. Sera was having a conversation with herself.
"Sera? Do I need to put you back in the padded room?"
"Yuppers!! Who was that?"
"Nick. He wants to know if we wanna go swimming."
"Sure, sounds like fun. I'll bring my suit and see you in five."
"Okay, bye."
Sam hung up and went to change into her bathing suit. As soon as she was finished the doorbell rang and she heard Sera running up the stairs. Sera flung the door open without bothering to knock.
"Did you hurry Sera?"
"Na, not at all!"
"You are a freak! Get changed and we'll go over. I'll tell you about everything while we're over there. We'll just sneak away for a bit."
Sam waited for Sera to changed and then the headed over to Nicks. Walking around, they went to the deck from the side entrance. Looking in they both go apprehensive. All the guys were there and they were splashing around and making a huge mess. Quietly and carefully, they walked inside the gate and set their stuff down on a chair. Then they both looked at each other and grinned. Both of them started shrieking at the top of their lungs. All five guys jumped out of their skin while Sera and Sam collapsed in a fit of giggles.
"Oh, you think it's funny to scare us, huh Sam? Come here."
"No way Nick! I don't trust you."
"Aw, come on.....I just wanna give you a kiss," he said walking closer to Sam.
"No way! I don't trust you."
Taking one look around, Sam took off running towards the stairs that led to the beach. Looking behind her, she saw that AJ and Kevin already had Sera cornered and Brian and Howie were chasing her. Turning back around, she ran full speed into Nick, knocking them both down.
"OW!!" Sam cried, rubbing her head.
Before she could regain her composure, Nick picked her up and walked towards the pool. Just as Sam realized what he was going to do, Nick jumped in. Sam was shocked at how cold the water was and clung to Nick. When they resurfaced, Sam was coughing and Nick was laughing.
"Oh you are so dead Nick!!!"
"Oh come on......we're just having some fun Sam. You gotta admit, it was funny!"
"SAM!! Help me!!"
Sam looked up and saw AJ and Kevin had Sera on the ground and they were tickling her. Knowing how ticklish she is, Sam swam over and climbed out of the pool. Running up to them, she knocked Kevin into the water and then jumped on AJ's back.
"Leave her alone you freak!"
As AJ sat there in surprise, Sera jumped up and helped Sam throw AJ into the pool. Then looking up, they saw that Howie and Brian were still standing. Whispering to each other they decided Sera would get Howie, while Sam got Brian. After a 10 minute chase, all the guys were in the pool and Sam and Sera were standing at the side gloating. The guys eyed each other, all thinking the same thing.......revenge.

A couple hours later, the guys were discussing revenge while the girls sat in a corner talking.
"I wonder what they're talking about....." Nick wondered out loud.
"Probably about last night Nick," Brian whispered.
"Do you think so?"
"Who knows.....come on, how are we going to get them back?"
"I dunno......we need something good......something embarrassing....."

"I can't believe you Sam!!! You really would have slept with him?"
"I dunno Sera. I was just caught up in the moment I think. It was so embarrassing!!! I can't believe I did that!"
"Well I don't think Nick minded. If he had, he wouldn't have invited you over today."
"I know.....but it's still embarrassing. I mean, I went to take his pants off Sera!!"
Sera burst out laughing, which drew attention from the guys on the other side of the deck.
"It's not funny!"
"Yes it is!! I mean, that whole prom night cliche. You almost lived it!! I find this incredibly funny. Besides, who cares Sam. You didn't do anything. He obviously isn't dwelling on it.....so move on."
"I guess......."
They continued to talk quietly and didn't notice when the guys snuck away. Nor did they notice when the guys came back outside. They were so caught up in their conversation they didn't know what hit them. One minute they were sitting and talking, they next they were being squirted with water, honey, and strawberry sauce......or so they hoped. Once everything was mixed together you couldn't tell what it was anymore. The guys sat down laughing at the shocked expressions on Sam and Sera's face. Sam got up and walked towards Nick, a slight smile playing on her lips. Nick looked around apprehensively. The closer Sam got, the more nervous Nick got. Sam walked up to him and jumped in his lap, smearing everything on him.
"UGH!! Gross!!"
Seeing this, everyone burst out laughing. Howie, AJ and Kevin headed to the pool again, while Brian went and helped Sera get the gunk off of her. Nick and Sam just sat there, Sam still sitting in his lap.
"This is really gross Sam?"
"I dunno......it's not that bad. Most people would think it more kinky than gross."
Smiling a little, Nick kissed her. Both of them totally forgot about the others outside until they heard the catcalls and whistles. Breaking apart, they both turned red in the face while everyone else made fun of them.
"Come on," Nick said taking her hand.
"Where we going?"
"To get this sticky gunk off of us!"
Sam followed Nick to the outdoor shower and spent quite a bit of time scrubbing the gunk off. Once they were finished, they joined the others. Brian was cooking some burgers on the grill and everyone else was sitting at the table talking.
"So, you two ready to graduate?" Kevin asked.
"I am! I can't wait to get out of there!!"
"I dunno......I'm not as enthusiastic as Nick, but I'm glad I'm graduating early."
"When is graduation," Howie asked looking at Sam.
"In two weeks......whoa......"
Everything kinda got quiet after that. Everyone was in their own world thinking of stuff.
"Oh shit, Sam, I gotta go. I was supposed to be home an hour ago. I'll see you all later!" Sera said, jumping up and racing over to her car.
"I better be going to. I've got a math final to study for......"
Slowly Sam got up and headed home. After she left, the guys did a little practicing and then one by one, they all decided to head home as well.

Sam sat in her bed later and just stared at the wall. She couldn't believe graduation was only two weeks away. She also didn't understand what was going on between her and Nick. He never actually asked her out, so they weren't a couple or anything but after last night......
"UGH! I GIVE UP!" Sam screamed to no one. Turning out her light, Sam jumped under her covers and fell asleep.

Nick walked into his room and heard Sam scream, "UGH! I GIVE UP!" Going over to his window, he saw her light go out.
"Hmm.....wonder what that was all about....." Nick shrugged and got dressed for bed. He was exhausted. As he lay in the dark he thought about what had happened the night before. He wasn't sure what to do. Should he ask her out or leave it be?
"UGH!! I give up!" he laughingly mumbled as he drifted off to sleep.
