St Augustine

St Augustine is a town in the northeastern part of Florida which is about 30 miles from Jacksonville. St. Augustine was chosen as one of my picks because of it's wonderful history and beauty. It has a lot of wonderful antique shops where you can find some fantastic deals. While you're there do not forget to see Ft. Matanzas, it was a fort built in the 1500's by the Spainards. The lighthouse is a must see. And don't forget to take in a night of fine dining and a walk on the beach. Also don't forget to see Ponce De Leon's famous "Fountain of Youth". St. Augustine is a peaceful and small town and would be well worth staying a few days. On a scale of 1-10 I give St Augustine an 9 for its beauty and intresting sites. It may be hard to get a hotel reservation so if you cannot get one in St. Augustine, try Jacksonville, there may be a good deal to be found. Of course, then you will have to drive to St Augustine, and that could be a hassle!!! I would also like to suggest that Ponte Verde Beach is also a wonderful alternative to St. Augustine. It has spectacular accomadations and is a great place to relax on the beach. Ponte Verde is only about a 30 minute scenic drive from St. Augustine.
