Throughout my years of living on this planet, I have had many different experiences and learned lots from them. Of course, nothing I have to say is completely new, because everything's been said before.
I know, I know, you're probably thinking "What could a 26 year old kid know about anything?" Well, I don't have a very good answer for you. All I do know is that kids grow up faster these days. Not that I'm blaming or commending anyone. It's simply something I've learned. And I know I don't know everything, so we can't credit this blurb to my "I'm a teenager and I know everything" phase because that's long over with. Now that all of that's out, I'll continue with my list of Things That I Hold To Be True:
Never give up on finding love, it will come to you when you least expect it.
Life isn't fair. It never was fair. It will never be fair. So deal with it...
People always think they know more than they actually do. (Yes, this includes me.)
The truth is always changing.
The world would be a great place if everyone would keep their noses out of other people's business.
Humans, as a rule, are way too nosey and will never be able to keep out of other people's business.
People claim to want honesty, but 99% of the time, they can't handle it and run from the truth.
Elvis is dead.
I am gay & I am not going to Hell.
The media dictates what most people think. i.e. - People hear the media hyping a movie and they feel they must go and see it.
There's really no reason for movie/art/food/music critics - everyone on this planet has his or her own taste. But the reason we do have them is once again due to the statement I made immediately above. We need someone to tell us what to think.
Everyone is attacking the tobacco industry these days, it seems to be the "cool" thing to do. People are advocating the outlaw of tobacco. But do we realize how many more millions of people would be out of work if we did outlaw tobacco? Besides all the people working in the plants, people working in Tobacco stores, cigarette accessory plants and even anti-tobacco organizations would be out of work. How would America accomodate all of these out-of-work people?
No matter how hard you try not to hurt someone... it's still possible and probable that you will.
You cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them.
No matter how much you care, some people just don't care back.
It takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.
You can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes. After that, you'd better know something.
Don't ever compare yourself to the best that others can do.
You can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.
Always leave the people you love with loving words - it might be the last time you ever see them.
You really can keep on going long after you think that you can't.
You are responsible for what you do, no matter how you feel or what state you’re in.
Heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.
Sometimes the person you expect to kick you when you're down will be the one to help you get back up.
True friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. The same goes for true love.
Just because someone doesn't love you the way that you want them to, doesn't mean that they don't love you with all they have.
Maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.
You should never tell a child that their dreams are unlikely or outlandish. Few things are more humiliating, and it would be a tragedy if they actually believed it.
No matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must
forgive them for it.
It isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. You need to learn to forgive yourself.
No matter how bad your heart is broken, the world WILL NOT and CAN NOT stop for your grief.
Our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.
We don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.
You shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.
Two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.
Even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.
The people you care about most in life are always taken from you too soon.
You should love everyone - they are all only human, just like you - racism, sexism, homophobia, age-ism etc. are silly and ignorant.
It's hard to determine where to draw the line between being nice/not hurting people's feelings and standing up for what you believe in.
Hate does absolutely NOTHING but waste energy.
Well, that's enough for now. I'll post more thoughts later. If you have any you'd like for me to consider posting, please send them to me. I'm always looking for new truths.
