Back in the Fall of 1995, Ultra Muchos/River City Films released a film called THE RETURN OF THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. The film was a success. But when seen through the eyes of a dedicated fan, we begin to see a studio flaw. The film made no fucking sense.

For years we have been convinced that the cannibal clan killed for the meat of their victims to make barbecue and give Leatherface......well, a new face to cover his deformed one. But in this one, we are made to believe that they had been killing because they were under the influence of aliens, according to the airhead girlfriend of the new clan leader.

However, after a four market, world premiere, theater test in the fall of 1995, it was snapped up by Sony's Colombia Tri-Star Pictures. And if our luck is good enough they will go back and fix that unexplained bit about the aliens. It is just not Texas Chainsaw Massacre material.

A preview for the theatrical re-release of the film can be seen on video. Just rent the film MAXIMUM RISK and the preview can be seen before the movie. There is just one slight difference, the film is no longer going to be called The Return. It is now going to be called TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION. It dunno if that sounds better or worse, I can't decide. I'll leave it up to you, the view to decide for yourselves.

With this fourth installment in the Chainsaw series, we bring back veteran writer from the first film Kim Henkel who now directs as well as writes this. The cast is filled with two of Hollywood's biggest stars, Renee Zellweger (Jerry MacGuire) and Matthew McConaughey (A Time to Kill). But this debuts their career before they ever made it big in those two films. However this is not their first movie where they both starred together. Right before Matthew graduated from college he did a movie called DAZED AND CONFUSED which also starred Renee. But she did not have the lead role, nor a major role for that matter. But she was in the movie. Just check the credits, she is there.

The script is unique because it has the changes and on site corrections and alteration made by the writer on the set of the film. With most other scripts you see only the final work, never do you see on the page, changes and decisions that the director or writer decided to make at the last minute and also get to see the stuff that was cut out of the script.
