Tips, Tricks and Ideas

This section will be dedicated to the revamping of 12" dolls. If you have any tips, tricks or ideas please e-mail them to me and I will post them here. I've started it with a couple of tips I got from Barbie Bazaar magazine.

TIP:Bad Barbie hair

There is a way to regain the new-look to your doll's hair. Start with liquid dishwashing soap (author's favorite is Lemon Joy). Wet hair thoroughly and apply a small amount of soap, then suds. Rinse with warm water. Then, mix two ounces (cap-fuls) of liquid fabric softener (sug. Ultra Snuggle), to one cup of hot water. Dip hair in to mixture. This acts as a conditioner and, helps to detangle the hair. Using a standard comb, work with the broad end first, coming from the ends working your way up to the base of the head, gently detangle the hair. When you have eased the tangles out, recomb with the fine end of the comb to ensure that all the hair is smooth, Next, pour freshly boiled water through the hair to rinse the fabric softener out. Recomb the hair and allow to dry (I let it dry overnight). The hair should be smooth and shiny, If the soft, smoothe texture did not return with the first treatment, repeat the softener and boiled water rinse. Remember, Barbie doll's hair isn't human, it's synthetic so conditioners designed for your hair, will not necessarily bring about the best results for you doll. After the hair is clean and shiny, you can style with a hot water set.**Submited by Debbie M.
