The Big "A"
Okay, I am finally getting around to touching one of the biggest religious, political, and social contraversy of the 20th century. The Big "A", Abortion.
Recently there has been a fad of brutal murders, bombings, and even the apparently fake sending of Anthrax to Abortion Doctors and their employees. The vast majority of these were from Christian protestors. Why do they do this? Partially their personal beliefs of the right to live, but mainly from the preaching from religious rights and the Christian Coalition. They say God is anti abortion, but is it true?
In Numbers 5:11-21, it says that if a man suspects that his wife cheated on him, he can take him to a preist where the preist will make a drink for her to take. If the woman is not guilty of cheating, the drink will do nothing, but is she is guilty it will make the "belly to swell and the thy to rot". This has been translated in the NIV bible as a miscarrying womb. That sounds to me like a God approved abortion. Now this is one of the non-scientific flaws of the Bible, every person interperates it differently.
On the other hand, I could not find anywhere in the Bible where God says that preists that give these drinks to women should be killed, or have their places bombed... But I have heard that "Thou shalt not kill". I fail to believe that that included fetuses because they had no real way of proving a fetus, zygote, or anything was living in that time. After all, people of that time couldn't prove that the earth was moving, so I doubt they had the sonograms to show a baby's heartbeat.
What's my take on the whole abortion thing? I feel making abortion illegal is a big mistake, it won't stop abortions, only make them unsanitary from being performed in dumpy places or in one's own home. All in all it's the woman's choice, it's not an easy choice, but it's all theirs. You can say that nobody has the right to decide for the baby, but those people won't make statements of how they would like to have been born a crackbaby destined to wither and die within weeks or go home to a crack house and be neglected. How would they like to be horrificly deformed and brain damaged leaving them as a joke to everyone... would you want your kid to have to go through life looking like The Elephant Man?
Okay so there is adoption. Adoption is a good alternative, but abusive people get past the system and adopted children do get abused physically and sexually. Not to mention that most of them are lied to most of their lives about their parents, and a lot of them end up spending years looking for their parents. Not to mention their parents are usually eaten with guilt for the rest of their live too.
My bottom line is, if you are against abortions, don't have one. If you are out to kill abortion doctors, and are very gung ho about making abortions illegal. Think about this. How would you like your 13 year old daughter getting raped and ending up giving birth to an AIDS baby? Would you like seeing a grandchild live a painful 5 years then dying a horrible death?
