Witchery

1. How did the band get started? How did you meet and how long have you been together?

Witchery was formed shortly after "Irreverent" split up. We originally planned to be called Impurity but there are already 3 or 4 bands using that name. Irreverent was formed in early 1990 and the two originally members, Darkwolf of the Abyssmal Winter and myself are who plays in Witchery

2. How would you describe your music?

I would describe our music as the manifestation of darkness, hatred, sorrow and evil. All of our songs produce a melancholic and morbid atmosphere. The two songs on the promo are probably the most guitar driven songs we have. The others unreleaseed songs we use much more keyboards. I also incorporate dark, ambient overtones to produce the aura of total darkness and evil

3. What are your biggest influences?

Bathory, (old) Samael, and Mayhem probably influenced was the most as far as style wise. People have said that we sound similar to Darkthrone which I take was a huge compliment. Also bands like (old) Frost, Blasphemy, and Rotting Christ have influenced me but most of my influences comes from emotions, darkness and the coldness of night. We dont write songs to try to sound like anybody else other than ourselves

4. Who if any do you consider the bands idols?

I wouldnt say we have idols as far as the band is concerned or anything else for that matter. I dont idolize any person as I havent come across anybody worthy od idiolization in my time. The whole concept of idols is for weak-minded ceeble souls who are lost in the their consciousness

5. What made you want to be in the band? And if you weren’t in the band what would you be doing now?

I have played bass since I was 13 (I'm 20 now) and have been in bands almost that long. Music has always been something that I enjoy and always will. So I have always played in a band. There are very few true people in this area so that is why Witchery only has two members. If I wasnt in a band I would be doing the same thing I am doing is going to college and working

6. What are some of your favorite bands that are really popular today?

Unfornnately black metal isnt popular today due to the mass amount of ridiculous trend bands aand people which pollute the "scene". Most of these bands and people have nothing to do with true underground that I belong to. Im into Bathory, Mercyfulfate/King Diamond, (old) Frost, (old) Master's Hammer, Necromanbia, Switchblade Symphony, Dimmu Borgir, Tormenbor, Gehenna, Mazzy Star, Mayhem and many others. I also listenn to ambient, classical music, jazz etc... I support any musician who convey pure emotions and summon dark atmosphere with their music

7. How many demos/albums do you have? Tell me about them!!

We only have a rough two song promo/demo out to spread our name. It's available for $3 US and $4 overseas. We have around 8 or 9 songs plus ambient pieces. We are really hoping to get these songs out as an album because they were written as album, we've had some label interest as of now but we will see what happens. Anyone interest should write me. I answer all mail

8. What does the future hold for the band?

Hopefully a full length LP for a decent label; and to get into contact with all true souls whom inhabit this earthly tomb. (What about you Altara?)

9. If you could play with any band who would it be and why?

Maybe Dogheimsgard or Darkthrone because both of those bands crush and would be phenomenal to witness. Also, Aldrahn is a fucking superior vocalist

10. Who writes the majority of the music?

darkwolf writes most the guitar parts and I write the symth bass and vocal arrangements as well as a few songs musically and all lyrics

11. Who has been the favorite band you’ve played with and why?

We have never played as Witchery. In Irreverent, we played with Burning Inside which was our favorite show and band to play with, the reason is because they are very intense live band and are excellent musicians

12. Where did you get the band name from?

I have always been into the occult and mysticism and I felt it was a good name. It suits our sound as well

13. Describe what the band is like live?

As I menttioned before, we have never played and probably will never play. If there was an opportunity for a decent show, I would session musicians fill in for some instruments but there is no reason for us to play at a fucking baar in front of 30 to 40 trendies who dont appreciate our music. I hate this place, and the "scene" around here. If we did play, it would be a dark hate filled performance

14. If you are gonna do any kind of video what would be in it?

I wouldnt do a video

15. Are there any touring plans made; if so tell me about them?

No touring plans!! There is absolutely no reason for a band like us to play around here or anywhere else for that matter...

16. Where do you think the band will be 20 years from now?

Hopefully a memory of one of the only true black metal bannnds to emerge from the US (What about you Altara?)

*The band is still together and just playeda show with Acheron on June 12*
