Veteran's Day

It was a breathtakingly beautiful day today for the opening ceremony of the Field of Honor at Garrison Park, with 700 flags honoring U.S. military veterans. My niece Rose and the other students in the Pleasant Hill school band were invited to perform with the Cumberland County High School band, as part of the ceremony. The Field of Honor will be open all week, until Veterans Day on Saturday.

Near the speakers’ podium was a display of flags from all 6 branches of the U.S. military, and a table set up to honor P.O.W./M.I.A.s
Schoolfields Battery C/S 6th Ohio Light Infantry fired a cannon as part of the ceremony, as our county sheriff Casey Cox declared the Field of Honor officially open.

Lily, Becky, Liz and I were all so proud of how well Rose, Memphis, and the other band students performed during the ceremony.
My niece Rose seemed a little nervous, waiting for the Field of Honor ceremony to start.

Cumberland County Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1015, representing all branches of the military who served in Vietnam, provided the color guard to open and close the ceremony.
During the ceremony, Tim French shared information about I Walk 4 Them, his effort to honor veterans by walking with their photo and an American flag. State Senator Paul Bailey also spoke.
A special display honors Milo Lemert, a U.S. Army soldier from Crossville, who received the Medal of Honor for his actions during World War I, in battle near Bellicourt, France.
