CBI stands for Community Based Instruction. The students learn about working in different settings in the community. They go on location to experience interacting with people and getting to know about the work related to different jobs. In October our class had the opportunity to visit four different locations, including two trips to the Deland library. On our first trip to the library we enjoyed making glow in the dark paintings for our educational activity prior to students checking out books.
The next week we went to the Deland Museum of Art. Major CBI props to Ms Martha, (as we all awaited hurricane Milton), for her inspiring presentation on the new Carrie Ann Baade gallery. We were all able to make our own collage as a bonus.
I only had these four today, thanks to Milton

Our next CBI was to Publix. Major props to Ms Karlie for an awesome introductory tour of Publix. The students greatly enjoyed the personalized tour with bonus name tags made as a future employee.

Major props to Troy at Harvest Fields for providing one of our favorite CBI’s of the year. Milton cancelled our CBI last week, but Troy offered us an available opening due to a school unable to attend. We gratefully accepted and Troy delivered an excellent presentation on job skills needed to work on a farm. Bonus … we got to experience Harvest Fields exhibits, Corn Maze, and hayride.

The next week we greatly enjoyed our CBI to the DeLand Library for an intriguing literary history of pumpkins as well as a pumpkin decorating craft. Look at our beautiful pumpkins!
