BAD BOYS II

Whatcha gonna do, Jerry Bruckheimer? Will Smith is a mainstream star and has more films on schedule than fingers on his hands, Micahel Bay will be releasing his megahit ARMAGEDDON July 1st and Martin Lawrence is now off his NOTHING TO LOSE hit, whatcha gonna do? Easy. Bring back the project you were planning on doing with your partner-friend-producer Don Simpson.

Before Simpson died, Bruckheimer and Simpson were going to split up (because of Simpson's drug abuse problems) but the last project that was going to resemble the Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer name was the sequel to their comeback in the 90's. Now that Simpson is dead, Bruckheimer has been on his own and made his own company. And now when ever someone sees Bruckheimer's name they already know the quality they will be getting. Even Bay stated that he thought Bad Boys was never a big enough movie to have a sequel. And Will Smith? He's the most wanted star in Hollywood. So right now is the right time to make a sequel, BAD BOYS II, a.k.a. BAD OVER THE WORLD OVER a.k.a. BAD AROUND THE WORLD a.k.a. INTERNATIONAL BAD BOYS. Bad 2 is yet another Bruckheimer sequel in development hell. Reports even say that the sequel should have been out two years ago. With Smith's busy schedule...it'll be hard to get this one off ground. The tentative premise to Bad 2 is more "Lethal Weapon" than "Beverly Hills Cop". Remember, this is the plot that was in development a year ago; rewrites are in full blast now.

Since we last saw Marcus and Mike, they've saved their police station, ridden the streets of a drug lord, and have been talking trash while riding in their cars through Miami. Now they're bringing their two-man show to the world...and we ain't talking about a live tour. This time, a French terrorists have teamed up with a British bomber and they've just stolen enough bombpower to rock the nation. And above all, their first target is Miami. But first they've got to smuggle the bombs from Paris to England to the United States. Bad Boys, Bad Boys, Whatcha Gonna Do? Whatcha Gonna Do When They Come For You? Marcus and Mike are on the case and are out of Miami, chasing after the bombs, bad guys and kicking ass as they globe trot to stop the smuggling of the bombs before they get to Miami.

Though it is not known if all original cast members will return, rumors say that filming will begin sometime this year...but don't hold your breath. Will Smith has Wild, Wild, West, The Mark and a possible Men In Black sequel to film. Martin Lawrence is lending his voice to animated features (Mulan) and the Eddie Murphy comedy due out this summer (Dr. Do Little), Michael Bay is overlooking the post production of ARMAGEDDON and Jerry Bruckheimer is days away from completing ENEMY OF THE STATE. At one point in time, even re-writer Tom Dey was the director. But in the Part 2 Edition of Newsday about Colombia Pictures' films, they said Martin Lawrence, Will Smith and Michael Bay will "all return for BAD BOYS II". With more and more buddy movies being made and stealing spotlights (a MONEY TALKS sequel is in the works; a LETHAL WEAPON 4 is due out July 10th) it won't be hard for Bad 2 to be lost in the crowd. Will Smith is definetly signed on and Michael Bay also said that he wanted to start "Rock 2" but Bruckheimer persuaded him to make Bad 2 his next flick because he smelled a franchise. Franchise indeed. Bad 2 can start a franchise that will go the way of the Lethal Weapon series. And if it does, expect to see more of Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey. This is one sequel that won't suck.
