~*Chapter XIII*~

"Have you ever loved somebody so much it makes you cry? Have you ever needed something so bad you can't sleep at night?" Candy sang as she curled her eyelashes with her blue mascara. "Do you think the sky blue eye shadow would be good?" Candy asked Samantha who was an expert when it came to make-up. Elisa was styling her hair into a Jennifer Aniston-like bun in the bathroom, and Samantha was helping Candy with make-up at the dresser table.

"Uh-huh."

Once Candy was done she turned to the full-length mirror. "What do you think?"

Samantha attempted a whistle, and Candy smirked. She pulled her brown hair that was now streaked with light brown into a high ponytail and covered the band with a strand of hair that she pinned into place. Candy was wearing a black plait skirt that reached right above her knees and a white blouse with a gray unbuttoned sweater over it. She was wearing her favorite knee-length boots.

"Why are you all dressed up anyway? I thought you were over Brian," Samantha challenged.

"I am but you never know...there might be cute guys."

"Yeah...at a Backstreet Boys concert!"

"What's wrong with that?"

"Never mind. How do I look?" Samantha asked while she modeled her small brown velvet dress. She let her curly, light brown hair down reaching a little below her shoulders.

"Beautiful," Candy said.

Elisa rushed out of the bathroom. "You guys, we're going to be late!" she exclaimed.

"Oh my," Candy said sarcastically.

"Hey, Elisa. You look great!"

"I know," she answered with a grin.

"Hey! My copyright," Candy reminded Elisa.

"Oh yeah, I meant 'Don't I always?'"

"That's better," Candy replied.

Elisa brushed her dark-as-ebony strands of hair back behind her ears, and adjusted her long, maroon satin dress. She grabbed her purse and the room key. "Alright, let's go. I can't keep my boy waiting."

Candy and Samantha turned to the door following Elisa. "You kinda look like Whitney Houston in that dress. You know her new video?" Candy was talking about Elisa.

"No she doesn't look like Whitney Houston," Samantha protested.

"Yes she does," Candy convinced.

Elisa blushed. "No I don't," she said not wanting to believe what she just said.

"It doesn't matter. You all look like goddesses to me," a voice said while they walked to the elevator. Startled, they turned around to find AJ who was still wearing his sunglasses.

"Hey AJ," they greeted him. He held out his hand for Samantha and they walked down the hallway. "Why aren't you with the rest of the guys? I thought you were supposed to be there already," she pointed out.

"Oh well," AJ joked.

"No, really, why are you here?"

After a hesitation, AJ replied, "I forgot something, and the show doesn't start 'til fifteen minutes."

"What is it you forgot?"

AJ pointed at Elisa. "Ask her. She should know."

Confused, Elisa looked at AJ hoping for an explanation, but he just winked at her. Thinking harder, she remembered. Elisa heated up with embarassment. She knew what it was AJ forgot...something Nick had asked him for. Nick and herself had talked about it earlier, and now she felt a knot in her stomach. "Oh, it's nothing. Just drop it!" Elisa pleaded. And with that, nothing more was said of it.

Once they were in the lobby, Candy sang, "We're going to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of OZ!"

"Ummm, not really but okay," AJ laughed.

They were glad to see she was her happy self again, but they didn't know there was still a part of her missing. Deep down inside, Candy knew it.
