3. TROUBLESHOOTING

The following information is precise details on the item that you are purchasing and my terms and conditions of sale. It also outlines clear troubleshooting suggestions should you have problems playing the DVD's.

1. DVD SPECIFICATION
The DVD's are NOT copies of commercially available discs in the UK , Australia or USA .

Since the movie is not available on DVD in the abovementioned countries, the source is from VHS tape. With this source in mind, it should be noted that the master VHS tape is in perfect condition. There are no tracking glitches, corrosion or dropouts. It was recorded directly to DVD using variable bit rate mode. This ensures the highest possible quality.

This DVD also has a customized menu and has background music. It has also been chaptered.

The cover for the DVD is photo quality artwork obtained from the original film poster. The DVD itself has no labels as the artwork has been printed directly onto the disc itself.

The blank DVD that you will be purchasing is Ritek. I use these extensively and have found them to be the most reliable for this kind of thing. I do not use +R DVD blanks as I have also found that they are unreliable and can cause a majority of problems. Therefore, please be advised that my DVD's. are –R. Please make sure that your machine is able to play this format. I assume no responsibility should you encounter this problem after you have received the DVD and have NOT read these terms and conditions. It should be noted that this DVD will play on your PC DVD-ROM player should you not have a stand alone machine that is capable of reading –R.

Each disc is checked using two methods. Once through a PC DVD-ROM and once through my Technics stand alone player. I do this to make sure the chapters work properly and that the disc is readable. If you have problems with the disc, then please refer to my Trouble Shooting Section below as the problem is likely to be caused from DVD Player incompatibility rather than a faulty disc.

2. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE

As the buyer, it is YOUR responsibility that your equipment can play the DVD's. that you have purchased. I will not be offering refunds or replacements if you, the buyer, have failed to read the auction and the DVD Specifications. Postage – Signed Delivery

I can offer you the option of Registered Mail should you require it. This will, however, cost you extra and it is up to you as to whether you take this option or not. If you take this option and your item still undelivered, I will gladly send you a replacement. It should be noted that if you choose this option, I will be paying for a signed delivery receipt. This means that when you get the item, you will have to sign for it and that signature will be sent to me. I will not tolerate being told that it has not turned up using this option, when it may well have been. This ensures that we are both protected. However, if you choose not to take this option, I will not be held responsible items that are damaged or lost in the post. I will have a receipt of the postage, and that will be my proof that I sent it.

Buyers outside Australia may also have the concern that they will be charged for Custom Import Duty if they order one or more discs. To be savey with all countries and their levels of custom duty would be time consuming. However, rest assured that I send DVD’s and CDs overseas on a regular basis and I have never heard of such a situation arising. As a precaution, however, you will not pay customs duty as I will be filling out the form with what I consider the item to be worth. You may find that my idea of what it is worth is, more often than not, lower than the price you paid for it.

Please refer to the Troubleshooting reference at the bottom of this page before notifying me via email that your disc is not working. I will always try to ensure that you are happy with what you have bought, and (in some cases) I will send out a replacement disc (on a different media) providing that the original is sent back to me in the same condition that I sent it to you in eg. No dust, scratches or fingerprints on it. But please bear in mind that if you send me abusive email, this will not work to your advantage and could result in negative feedback. Therefore, it pays to be kind. You get better results from people if you are.

Regrettably, I am not in a position to offer a refund. This is mostly due to the fact that discs are, nowadays, easily copied. No retailer here in Australia allows a refund on commercially released DVD's., they merely exchange. Therefore, I don’t think that I am asking too much by applying the same procedure.

I am more than happy to inform you of anything regarding your purchase. However, I must ask that you clearly state the following in your email requests:

Your Full Name
EBay User ID
Shipping Address
Item ID Number
Title Of The DVD

This will make my life a lot easier and will save me the trouble of sorting through many emails, especially when a different address is used, as opposed to an EBay Account.

3. TROUBLESHOOTING

My past knowledge has shown that roughly 2% of DVD’s can have a problem playing. More often than not, this is mainly due to the fact that it is the more expensive players that have a problem. One can buy DVD players nowadays that can play anything! If you have an older model DVD player, or one that is high tech and expensive and it doesn’t play DVD-R it might be worth your while purchasing one of these cheep players because, due to their reliability, DVD-R’s are going to become more and more popular and more common than video tape.

The simplest way to eliminate whether it is the player or disc that is not working, is to play it in another player. If you are still encountering problems, please continue reading.

The chief problems that people have with discs that don’t play are due to one of the following:

Skipping
Picture Break Up
Disc Locking (Picture Freeze) at certain points

Please consider the following reasons as to why this happens:

Dust and dirt on the lens or disc itself is a major contribution to this. It would be in your best interests to purchase a Lens and Disc Cleaner. The disc comprises of little brushes on the underside of the disc. A lot of these cleaners have on screen instructions, if not, follow the manufacturers instructions for following this procedure. When you are cleaning the disc, always wipe from the inside out. Never clean the disc in a rotational manner, they are not old records!!! If you have a fine haired brush (like a makeup brush) this would be the perfect tool to lightly brush away any dust that is on the surface. Always handle your discs on the edges and never touch the recorded surface. Once you have watched your disc, put the disc back in it’s cover. Should you leave it out, dust will settle on the surface and this will result in your player having a problem reading the disc.

Remember, DVD-R media is tremendously more sensitive than pressed DVD’s. The slightest spec can cause problems. So look after your DVD and Player, and they will look after you.

Sometimes even with a clean disc and laser the DVD will either have picture break up or won’t play part way through the film. So what’s causing this? Well some players don’t grip the disc as tightly as others, which causes the disc to vibrate or "wobble" slightly when it’s being spun. Now when the movie is being played at the beginning, the data is being read from the center of the disc. However, as the film progresses the DVD player is reading data nearer to the outer edge of the disc where the vibration is greater, and will have problems reading the data because if this, causing the picture to break up and eventually not play.

If any buyers do have problems with playing the discs on their equipment, if they have ensured that their DVD player can play DVD-R media, their DVD player has a clean lens, and the disc is not scratched / dirty etc. I will happily exchange their disc for another on a different brand of media upon return of the original disc.

After all that, some players just don’t like certain brands of DVD-R. I use the highest quality Ritek dye discs, which offer the best compatibility.

The few people who have e-mailed me saying that they have had problems playing their discs, have had them replaced by me on a different brand of disc. This has solved every problem. But before you return the disc please e-mail me at mst67dvd@yahoo.com.au

For your information, I have compiled the following information from customers and factory standards to assist you in determining if your player is going to be compatible or not. It would be worth your while reading it to make sure.
