Hampton Court Palace

I guess this could really still be considered part of my London trip... Hampton Court was the home of King Henry VIII, arguably one of the most influential kings of England. He is the one given credit for breaking England off from the Roman Catholic Church and was also largely responsible for a lot of the court systems still used in English government today. I guess it wasn't really just him, but it was during his reign that this all started. While Hampton Court doesn't match the splendour of Versailles, it is definately a magnificent place, very worthy of King Henry!

From the front gate...

This is a view of the front of the castle from the front gate. It really was magnificent, and I only wish I could see it in the spring and summer when flowers are in bloom...

The Front Door

While it may look like Henry was ready for war, this door was actually just made to look warlike. In reality, this castle would not have withstood an attack. It didn't need to! Most people loved the king, or feared him. Either way, he wouldn't be attacked!

The King's Crest

Here is the King's Crest over the front door. The writing means "My God and My Right" I think. Basically, Henry thought he had the right to rule the kingdom of England.

Statues galore!

These statues lined the entry into the castle... Very cool looking!
