HAMISH McLEOD GREEN

Hamish came to us in the last week of January, 2003. Even down here in Virginia, it's COLD then, and apparently, I am going to get used to plain old ICE storms, instead of snow....
Timmy's friend from work, Joe, was driving home one night, and thought he saw a dead kitten on the edge of the icy, cold, wet roadway. He kept going, but, when he got home, he had the strangest feeling that he NEEDED to go back out into the weather, and the route should be the same.
On that return trip, he thought that the kitten had ended up in a slightly different spot, and so stopped. He was alive, just barely.
He took him to a vet; had him checked out, and then brought him back to his home, where there are 7(?) cats and a dog. Timmy knew immediately when Joe asked if we knew anyone who wanted a cat, that Joe had finally reached the house limit on strays. He told him we would take him in.
Who knows what happened to this poor boy! Joe and the vet both thought he had been declawed; every pad on all four feet was raw and/or bloody; he had a cut on a back leg that was healing. He weighed under 2 pounds, and we guessed he was about 4 months old. It wasn't until 6 weeks later that we could be sure that he hadn't been declawed, because by then, tiny, rounded claws started emerging from his fingers and toes.
He still is deathly afraid of most other people, although we are to know not more than five minutes peace, free of his presence. He has on occasion tried to be brave, and "HIDES" in plain sight, all the way down the hall where no one can see him, but he is always posed for flight. This is a GREAT improvement from hiding behind the washing machine for the whole weekend if Michelle stayed over!
He misses Miss Bugly, who went back home with Michelle in August, right after he FINALLY convinced her to play with him on occasion. I call him a tree cat, who is allergic to the floor, because he spends all his time walking from one object to the other, trying desprately to avoid touching the floor! He also has a thing about sleeping on the clothing BAR in the closet...he leaps from the floor to the ROD..not to the shelf above...
Miss Bugley, our resident cat, is not as thrilled with the new addition as we are. Here, she is the "headlights" you see under my desk. Recently she has taken up residence behind the couch.

Hamish is going to be one LOONNGG cat!
Tatiana is the newest member of the family....she arrived on Feb 22, and is here to be Hamish's pet!
We shall see how that goes!!! She is doing rather well so far; sitting on the couch right now, and keeping Hamish OFF the couch....Hey, it's a learning curve! She chose Tatiana by responding ONLY to that name and none of the others we tried. She is about a year old, and a ringer for our last cat, Myfynwy....
Hamish LOVES to sit on this chair and peer out the window, watching squirrels, headlights, who KNOWS what!
Ok, no one said making friends was going to be EASY
