Arwen

Arwen is the daughter of Elrond, and she was born in the supposed likeness of Luthian, an elf-maiden who gave her love and immortality to Beren, a mortal man. The irony is that Arwen ends up giving her love and immortanlity to a man as well, Aragorn.

Arwen first met Aragorn in Imladris (Rivendell). They met again in Lothlorien and fell in love. They meet again for a while in Rivendell when Aragorn comes with the Hobbits in The Fellowship of the Ring. In the movie, there is great emphasis on the dealings between Arwen and Aragorn, as well as Elrond and Arwen and Aragorn. Basically, Elrond is against Arwen leaving her people and her immortality behind for Aragorn, but in the end lets her go.

Arwen plays a small part in the over-all story as far as the War and the Quest are concerned. However, she does send the banner of Arnor to Aragorn along with the Dunadain Rangers.

In the end, Arwen marries Aragorn after the War of the Ring is over. Because she gave her immortality for Aragorn's love, she dies a year after Aragorn dies.
