~Alan Benedict~

First of all, this movie does what it needs to do. You can't expect some deep, thought provoking flick like fight club when walking into a movie like Spiderman. The film makers know this, and don't want to confuse and disorient a pre-teen audience, so they stick to the formula. Plug in like-able hero, girl that hero can't seem to get, and bad gun. And you've got yourself a movie, a predictable movie, but a movie.

: "Girl next door" Mary Jane is a H-O-E. Big time Ho. She starts out in love with the cute popular football player in high school. Then she shifts over to Peter Parker's best friend, Harry Osgood, because he's rich. Then she falls in love with spiderman because he's famous. Like a 12 year old middle-schooler, she gets crushes on all main characters in the movie. She even makes out with spiderman without knowing he is, while she's with Harry. Then she gets over spiderman and falls for Peter Parker, how sweet. In short, it turns into a mushy soap opera in between the stunning action sequences.

Also, the characters couldn't put 2 and 2 together. Everyone was trying to figure out who spiderman was, noone knew, it was like some big mystery. BUT SPIDERMAN TALKED TO THEM, in his own voice, saying the same things he said as peter parker. And in high school he did a double back flip and shot webs out of his wrists. but still no one could figure out who spiderman was.

: Some good points to the movie, was the Tobe Maguire did a good job as Peter Parker, despite his 5 minute proffession of love to Mary Jane while his mother was in critical condition, which made me almost fall asleep. Other than that he as very believable. Also the movie was very entertaining. The special effects were very good, a little cartoonie, but that's alright. They got the job done, as did the whole movie.

End: They set up the sequal quite nicely, which will probably pull in another 200 million dollars.

average 3 stars for an average movie that gets the job done despite its share of flaws
