“You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.”
-“Bullet Tooth” Tony

Plot: Alan did the majority of the plot, but to give a feel of who else is involved in this mass movement to get the diamond here’s all the main characters. A group of mafia like men headed by “Brick Top” an old, pissed off man that feeds his victims to pigs, yes pigs. A Russian loner that dodges bullets (fugitively), a Jewish American jeweler and his hit man, and the three black British men all going for this massive diamond. Amongst all that there are unlicensed boxing events going on, which has Mickey (a gypsy) hired to take falls in the 4th round, but never does, making Turkish and his partner Tommy look bad. Brick Top sets up the whole match and makes bets on it so he and his partners can make money, Mickey winning screws all of this up. There are so many mini-plots in this movie, it’s best to rent it and watch it twice.

: Everybody in this movie played awesome characters, not one bored me, some where hard to understand but didn’t take away from the movie. Mickey played by Brad Pitt was too funny, his jumbled, fast-talkin’ sentences confused many that were around him. The concept of “One-Punch” in his fights, were very original, he’d get his ass handed to him, and one-punch later he’d win.
My other favorite character was Tyron the getaway driver. A fat British black man with a high, light voice in a stolen midget car was his introduction to the movie, brilliant! He could hardly get out of the car, and to make it worse he really wasn’t a good driver at all. The combination of him and his two friends put out some great scenes throughout the movie.
I have to mention Brick Top, this guy is so ruthless, he’s slice your nuts without thinking twice, seriously. He was played perfectly, only worried about money and could care less about people’s lives. His personality changes quickly to a pouty baby if he’s embarrassed.
Music in this move rocked, I got the soundtrack after watching it, the use of fast flutes, canastas, funk, Arabian, and jazzy music gave scenes a nice atmosphere. No song was better then “F*ckin in the Bushes” by Oasis, this is the final fight scene’s song. An awesome guitar rift gets the blood flowing; I had to learn it after hearing it.
Alan mentioned it also, but the crash scene involving three different groups was un.be.live.able. How they mis-matched the scenes and then brought them full circle to make sense blew me away. Never seen it done in a way like in this movie.
The camera angles and use of slow motion and just about any other camera technique used in this movie made it that much more enjoyable to watch. A guy would spin a revolver and the camera would spin just the same into a different scene, so much more creative then just cutting to the next part.
: The voices got to me sometimes, not so much the gypsies, I found how they talked funny, but some of the other characters thick British or Irish accents were hard to follow along.
Other then the fight scenes, I don’t know how so many bare fisted punches could be thrown and only have minimal damage. The makeup could have been done a little better. <~~That shows right there, I can’t think of anything significantly bad about this movie, so I’ll end this.
End: Fantastic movie. Get it. Watch it twice. It’s a toned down Fight Club, with no hidden meaning.

“Ey mak suu ya git da care-rivan in perry-winkle blu, for mi MA” – Mickey (Brad Pitt)

4 ½ stars, I think I’ll go out and buy this movie, it’s quickly become one of my favorite movies.

~Alan Benedict~

Plot: The movie follows 4 or so separate groups as they try and get their hands on an 84 kt diamond. And the few other people who end up getting involved without really knowing what’s going on. Two unlicensed boxing promoters, Tommy, and Turkish(named after the plane crash his parents met on) live in a small trailer in London and spend most of the day trying to get their main man gorgeous George a fight. They need a new trailor so Tommy and George travel up to see the “pikers” a group of traveling gypsies who have their own boomhower-like language. Tommy and George buy themselves a nice new trailer, but as they’re pulling away, the back wheels fall right off of it. Tommy and George, pissed off because they got hosed by the pikers, storm back over and demand their money back. Mickey (Brad Pitt) comes out and they set up a fight. If George can beat the considerably smaller Mickey, then they can get their money back if not, they’re screwed. Well it turns out Mickey is a bare-knuckle champion and sends George to the floor with one punch. George can’t fight for a while, poor guy has some broken bones in his face, but Tommy and Turkish have already set up a fight for him. The other guys promoter is pissed because he was planning on making a killing with the George fight. Fearing for their lives, Tommy and Turkish recruit Mickey to take George’s place. They’re told that Mickey has to go down in the 4th round, they tell him, and everything seems fine. Until Mickey knocks out this chump with one punch. Then the movie really takes off. Introducing a barrage of interesting characters and throwing them into some awkward situations.

: My plot summary was just scratching the surface; there is a group of black brits that are hired to steal the diamond from Freddy “Four-fingers.” Freddy’s in the back of his van which doubles as his closet, getting ready to meet them, when there “professional” driver, Tyrone, backs right into the doors on the van. He doesn’t want to move the car, so they wait around for Freddy to show up. What follows is a hilarious set of scenes showing the fate of the black brits and Freddy. There are a few other groups in search of this diamond, and when all three groups meet in a traffic accident, the result is brilliant. The cinematography throughout the movie is outstanding, along with a decent soundtrack.
: In the beginning, the movie is rather hard to follow, and ends up dragging a bit, until you finally get a handle on who all these people are and how they all fit together. It doesn’t help that some of the Brit’s have heavy accents that you really have to pay attention to. Some of the one-liners don’t go over so well, but the majority of the film is pretty funny.

End: This was a very creative movie that I really enjoyed. It’s the kind of movie that you’ll either love or hate, and I’m leaning more towards the former which is why I’m giving it 4 stars.
