WARNING: This review contains some plot-spoilers....wait, there's no point to this movie, sooo I guess there's nothing to spoil...nevermind
~Josh Gagnon~
"One of the things, we decided right from the beginning was this film has no context."
Vincenzo Natali - Director/Co-Writer
Plot- This movie will either make you laugh or make you want to destroy anybody that yells at you. Its packed with a homicidal-super-human black guy, a comic relief in the form an idiot savant, an "I hate my life" white male, and a psycho doctor that will make you hate blonds for quite awhile. A simple plot of seven strangers that wake up in a massive cube, that has no real meaning to it. They have to go through thousands of rooms to find their way out, but some rooms contain traps that could spell doom for whoever enters. If you want something to stare at without much thinking involved this would be your pick. The more you think and critique this movie, the worse it gets.
: Whoever wrote this story must have been a big fan of Seinfeld, since it has no real meaning from start to finish. Explanations for just about anything were, if not confusing, very lame. Listening to the writer's commentary they didnt seem to know why things occurred. His reasons for anything are comical and he blames it on shortage of time. Actors even seemed confused as they gurgled out garbage for the cubes existence.
The "soundtrack" consisted of one song that played randomly throughout the movie. Sounded like a cheap rip-off of a scary Dido voice saying "Ta-Ta-Ta-Ta" over and over with music that fit nicely with a Resident Evil video game. It was more hysterical then frightening.
There was a character that I was actually rooting for to die, as sick as it sounds. Try and figure out which it was, I'm sure this character will get on your nerves as they did mine. I could go on and on about stupid or useless parts of the movie, but I think you get the point.
: Some good points to the movie, was the actor David Hewlett who played 'David Worth' in the movie, I found him quite funny and actually a decent actor compared to the others. He was one person that didn't get me yelling at, to jump into a booby-trapped room. The camera angles in the movie kept it eye appealing for such a plain background and the time of the movie was easier to sit through.
End: Without giving away too much of the ending, one person who saw the movie, thought it had to do with heaven and hell. How that theory came about, I'm not sure, but I am sure that if you're a retard, youre going to heaven. If anybody desires to waste 1 ½ hours of their time, but get some good laughs in, try out THE CUBE!
I give it a generous 2 ½ stars, for being so damn funny, when it was suppose to be a sci-fi/thiller
~Alan Benedict~ Entertaining movie, really doesn't have a point, the premise is there's some huge cube thing that someone built, there's not really anyone behind it. So the people who kinda run it, they decide that.. since it's there, they might as well toss people in it... This movie really could have been a lot worse.
